22 Radiation treatments done and stool is black

Got diarrhea and stool is black. 22 radiation sessions done with 6 to go. Anyone run into this?

Tell your RO what is going on, but I really wouldn't worry about it at the moment. During treatment you can have all sorts of weird urinary/bowel problems that usually go away quickly once treatment is finished.

Black and tarry stool may indicate bleeding from higher up. Mention it to your RO. Are you having nodal radiation?

I didn't get that, but as Allen mentioned, it could be bleeding. Tell your RO right away.

By the way, if I take Bepto Bismol for diarrhea, it turns my stool dark.

IMRT definitely causes digestive tract problems like diarrhea, constipation, gas, and bleeding. Nearly one year after my last treatment, I got a colonoscopy to determine where bleeding was coming from. It was from internal hemorrhoids and "telangiectasia" which is dilation of the capillaries in the rectum from radiation. Bleeding comes and goes.

Yes they are hitting the lymph nodes.

That might explain it. One RO I spoke to doesn't like to do the pelvic lymph nodes unless there is some visceral fat protecting the small bowel - a problem for slim guys like me. Please let us know what your RO says.
