Guys,
Some of you may have read my recent threads and posts regarding the fact that the American Academy of Family Physicians specifically recommends that doctors no longer perform Digital Rectal Exams as a means of screening their patients for prostate cancer. This recommendation has NOT been discussed widely in the press or online so very few of us know of it. Here is virtually the only previous reference to it that I could find:
prostatecancerinfolink.net/2013/11/11/poor-guidance-from-the-aafp-badly-interpreted-by-the-mediaNow, two years after this recommendation, I am hoping to make some waves about
it and I need your help!
If you had an abnormal DRE, can you tell me your experience? At what age were you at the time? What was your PSA? Did you have a biopsy? If so, did it show prostate cancer or was it negative? If the diagnosis was Pca, what approach have you taken? I also want to know how you feel about
the importance of DREs to your situation or to others?
I want to "put a face" to some of the numbers of men with abnormal DREs who wound up with a diagnosis of prostate cancer.
While I encourage you to post your response right here, I would very much appreciate it if you were to click on my screen name to the left and go to my profile which lists my personal email address...and contact me directly.
I don't know if I will have any success with my campaign to the press, but with your help, I may have a fighting chance.
