10 days on Lupron

Yeah it sucked-

I did one 4 month dose, still on the half life part.

It was only tolerable because it worked very effectively

Six weeks in, my PSA dropped to undetectable

Seems a little strange to be starting ADT when your PSA was and still is undetectable following surgery..Is radiation treatment going to be started shortly?

I read that, but I don't see any reason to start ADT at this point unless it's going to be combined with radiation...ADT by itself never cured anybody of PC...The benefit is hard to see here but the side-effects will be very real indeed...

Perhaps John should see a Medical Oncologist and get his opinion on what path his treatment should be taking...

I have always felt that Urologists are working outside their job description when they start prescribing hormone drugs....Just my opinion......

Maybe you read past the "I start ART early November" part. ART is Adjuvant Radiation Therapy. Doctors like to wait a while after surgery before they start radiation to give the man time to heal and to recover continence as much as possible. Androgen deprivation is started earlier to keep the cancer from advancing during that delay before the radiation, and to sensitize the cancer to the radiation. The decision was undoubtedly made based on John's positive lymph node and has nothing to do with his PSA. I am slightly surprised that they are waiting until November. Usually ART is scheduled to complete within six months of surgery; John's will be nearly ten months.

I did indeed miss the ART part at the end of your signature..It makes a lot more sense now...There are a lot of things going on here...Sounds like your medical team has pulled out all the stops in their quest to achieve a cure....The hot flashes will begin shortly and once you build tolerance for them you can work your way through it without too much trouble.....Best of luck to you...
