At 4 years past RALP, I am overall quite pleased. The only downside is I never really recovered from reduced bladder capacity after surgery. I rarely have any leakage but it can happen if I sleep really soundly. It is quite common for me to get up at least twice at night. This plays havoc with getting a good night's sleep.
I will be seeing my uro / surgeon in a few weeks for my 4 year follow-up. I would like to ask him about treating my night time urgency and know going in prepared will help in getting his support. They have done ultrasounds before to check emptying and I do not have a retention problem. I know about alcohol and caffeine, their effect, and managing them in the evening.
What drug(s) are used to manage urgency? For those who have used such drugs, what are your experiences with any side effects? Did you stay on them just to re-train the bladder, or did you stay on them indefinitely once starting?
Thanks in advance,
