I just read of the passing of Steve. Although we don't really know each other, so very sorry to hear this news.

Carol - I'm shocked. I cannot imagine how you must feel. I've been away from this thread for a few days, so I read the mention of hospice and within minutes, read that you'd lost him. I only know you through your words, your very moving, heartfelt words, and still it was a punch in the gut to read what's happened to you. I am so so sorry.

The shock makes it harder I'm sure, and the time you wanted and expected that you didn't get makes it harder. I hope if there's any comfort in the way it transpired at all, it's that he left still having hope and still feeling your very real hope that he would again beat the odds. He didn't have to spend as long staring death in the face. So it's harder for you but maybe ever so slightly easier for him? I don't know, I'm grasping here.

I hope all the love and support filling these pages is of some help during these dark days. I will pray for strength and peace for you.

Thank you Susan. I remember this only too well as we were starting out. Two of my friends lost their husbands "overnight" to heart attacks and I am constantly amazed by their strength and the fact they have managed to craft new and inventive lives for themselves. Not happier lives, just different...

Hi Friends a few times I thought I am going to delete this forum as I do not want to see the words "prostate cancer" ever again, but every morning I get up and look to see how everyone is doing.  Just like familiy I can not look and read hoping for good news. Yesterday at 10:20 pm I watched the clock tick by 10:34 as that marked the one week since Steve's last breath. I have started a list of things I need to do but for every one I mark off I put two more on.  I am moving slow but needing much down time to reflect and the crying is less and the saddest is being moved away to make room for some good things happening in my life.  As my mother said " it is not the end of the world for us life keeps moving on". Please take care of yourselves while you are looking after your mate. Carol

Hello Every one;
Life has been strange to say the least since Dave has passed. Time itself and what I do with is well diffrent, I was very sleep deprived for quite a few months before Dave passed away .I slept with both ears open and every diffrent sound I was up and checking on him. I so wish he was still here so I could still have him in my life. When I look back at what has happened I wouldn't wish that back for him . He was such a worker , never really say still and just to not be able to do any of the things he loved was so hard for him, as I am sure it is for all our men. I have made the arrangements for burial in Oct and I think maybe after this is done I may sleep better knowing Dave is in his final place of rest. I did 2 urns 1 is the usual one and the second is a smaller replica of the fmain one . When I die the small urn will be interned within mine so I will always have Dave with me. Paper work is about 80% done and it wasn't to bad so far.
Then last week a 10 lb manilla envelope arrived with the next phase of negligence of nurse practitioner not screening Dave for Pc. So if you have any pro reasons that support screening or information that could help I any way. We had so many reasons that Dave should have had testing, the most important high lites , age 56, wife requested all screenings , only child, father never had PC mother had breast cancer, grand father we weren't sure at that time what he died from just the unknown factor of that should of had been red flagged. Dave on his blood work also had a high hemotocrit level and she knew that is a tumour marker but just had him go later for more bloodwork and it had dropped slightly .No reason for screening this man Looks Healthy!, and that is how Dave was handed his death sentence.
So if you have any knowledge that will help me get ready for this Teleconference I would sure appreciate any help. This could ultimately put the screening for PC into the place it should be. Done and I am even hoping that we can get them to admit education isn't being given and russion roulette is being played with our mens lives and its unacceptable. I would love to have a affirmative plan in place for base line screening at 40 earlier if there is any genitourinary cancer in the family. Testing frequently to ever year for 50 and over. One step I would like implemented is urologist preformed Dre and educational time alotted about PC because I strongly feel that education about prostate cancer is just not being looked after for any of us . Women as well as men should be educated. I will admit I didn't know very much about it either and I am now willing to say just why not? .
Any how keep me posted or email me privately as to how every one is doing. I think about you all and wonder and hope everything is going ok.

When do you have this interview? How many times have we read here that the "ball was dropped" by the GP? Or that it was caught early because the dr. was proactive. What we have for early detection is far from perfect, but if a frdaction of money that was spent on developing tx was spent on early detection, problem solved. But while what we do havwe is PSA testing, it should not be denied.

I have worn my blue ribbon every day for last two weeks. No one asks what it stands for. I am guessing most people dont know already. Education is key.
