Pete, I'll add to the chorus that suggests you look into the radiation therapies as well. If you're a G8, there is a reasonable chance the nasties have escaped from the gland, and surgery won't get it all. ..............................................
Remember this: surgeons do surgery, and will automatically recommend surgery. Radiation Oncologists do radiation therapy, and will automatically recommend radiation. YOU are the one who gets to decide what you are good with. Low PSA G8 is tricky to treat, and you really, really, need to find one of the true experts. You've only got one chance to get the initial treatment right.
+1 all of that. You really must consider all alternatives and the pros and cons, and it is really difficult to get unbiased advice about
a given procedure from the person who makes his living with that procedure.
You need to make a guess- maybe after studying or if you can get unbiased expert advice- about
your odds of being contained. Because if you are not contained, the surgery will NOT get it all and you will end up having radiation later anyway, maybe with worse side effects from the combo than either treatment alone. And if you are not contained, but it has not spread very far from the prostate bed, radiation might get it all.
We all know that these decisions can be gut wrenching, as we are not experts in either RT or surgery. I'm sorry you have to deal with this. Good luck on your decision whichever way it goes. But do get those 2nd opinions on those slides.
BTW, it is irrelevant about
the G2s. The only thing you need to be concerned about
are those 8s, and finding out if they really are 8s. Focus on that.
