PSA increase trends and acceptable timescales

I was wondering whether any of you have information on the acceptable level of increasing PSA over time.

I was diagnosed with low-level 3+3 in early SEP this year. I had two measurements prior to the biopsy (PSA 6.3 JUL 2015 / 6.89 AUG 2015) and one early this month (8.8 OCT 2015).

I would have thought that an increase at such levels and in such a short timescale would be worrying. I saw the oncologist on Monday and applied to take part in a trial of MR guided focused ultrasound to treat early stage prostate cancer. In order to qualify, the PSA level should be 10 or below.

Being dependent on the UK National Health Service, I was afraid that I may breach the acceptable PSA levels by the time my application has passed through the bureaucracy.

What are your thoughts?

Is it possible that your PSA Jumped in October due to the biopsy?

That may be possible, but unlikely. The biopsy only covered six samples and there was little effect (blood in semen for seven days). There was nearly two months between the biopsy and the latest test.

Oh ...and hurry up getting into that trial..your PSA will not be <10.00 for long. :)

Balingtwine: Has your uro considered treating an infection? I say this because of the combination of the low G6 and the accompanying, elevated psa and rather quick rise in psa. Also, you may want to have a second opinion on the biopsy.

Did those PSA numbers come from the same lab? And did you take the prescribed precautions prior to the tests? May you have had an infection prior to the October test?

I am unsure whether it was the same lab but believe so. They were taken at my GP. I believe we can rule out an infection. I have had many UTIs since being a child and know the feeling very well.

i am 36 years old.
all values were from different labs and in the night before the last test i ejaculated.
i have also an increasing trend and my urologist did not care due to my age.
i may have prostate ca.

Well, I guess the good news is that rapid increase of PSA was probably caused by the prostate infection.

The bad news is that I am peeing a beautiful red and feeling as if somebody has pushed a melon up my backside.

Still, I was somewhat surprised to be hit by an infection 60 days after the biopsy.
