David,
I feel awful that you had to go through that. There is a huge difference between a drug-seeking person addicted to narcotics and a patient such as yourself, that has terrible pain issues. Your physician should know the difference. He also should have educated the nursing staff regarding your past medical history and the need to use doses they would normally not feel comfortable administering. Medical care in most hospitals, leave much to be desired.

David, Don't wait very long about contacting your uro. The sooner you get started on antibiotics the better.
Even if there is no sign on the outside, try to get uro to check it out. You CAN NOT risk an infection with the major cutting you just had! Also, see if he can help with the pain issues, if they are continuing. Praying for relief and recovery.

Don't worry, won't be waiting longer than in the morning. The pain in this area, is the worse of all my pain centers, including the large incision. Hurts even when standing up, has worsened through the day.

I am hopeful that his latest surgery will finally address some of the issues that have created such a difficult time for you and family.

if this surgery works, and I have no reason to think it won't, it should end these high risk intestinal blockages. Had 2 in the past year, first put me in the ER, the 2nd, in July put me into 2 ER situation, and ended up with me being in the hospital for 3 days in July. After more scans, this led me to his elective and corrective surgery. Proof will be in the pudding, so to speak, will have to see how things end up in the weeks and months ahead.

The VA is busy making my 2nd and hopefully correct set of dentures, suppose to be ready by or before Nov. 1. This will allow me to eat real food after 14 months of not having any teeth, which hopefully gets me out of the anorexic state I have become. Should be a win-win thing for me if I am fortunate.

Unfortunately, none of this will aid or help me with the extensive radiation damage in my body, basically everything on me from the waist to my toes. I have slowly learned to understand, there is no possible fix for these issues. But I will take any improvement in my QOL situation. The rest I will be living with.

Still don't even know what my last PSA test results were in September, or was it August. My oncologist never called, e-mailed me, or sent me a letter. So I need to contact and find out what is going on in that department.

Glad you made it to the other side. Hopefully all the pain now will be worth it and your QOL will improve once the healing has progressed some.

Also glad you made it through the storm, some of us were concerned for you with all the rain. I had an old friend in Columbia get flooded out. He lived by a lake and the waters got so high they had to swim out of their house. Loss all three cars, cellphones were in their pockets during the swim and fish ended up in his living room. First floor of his home is now mud.

His family survived through it all so he is thankful for that.

Update: no evidence of infection in stoma area. doctor feels the stoma and conduit tube deeper inside, is traumatized and bruised internally from when he attempted to insert a scope early in my surgery, as an attempt to put stents in place. He said again, that he was unable to even pass the smallest gauge wire, let alone the stents. Not wishing to risk perm. damage or harm, he decided it was not worth the risk to force the issue.

I asked him, what if my tubes or kidneys ever shut down? He said it would become a serious medical emergency, and they would have to find a way to insert stents. But said he hoped it would never come down to that. Me too.

Worse pain today, same as yesterday. In the stoma area. Deep, acute pain. Would make you cringe to experience it. Even on max. pain med doses the past 2 days, isn't enough to cut the pain in that area. hope it heals up soon, to give me some relief.

My wife changed the Urostomy device today, and its more difficult to get a proper seal, as part of the device has to attach right over the metal staples on the abdominal incision itself. the surgeon cut pretty close to the stoma area, but probably had no choice in the matter. I didn't realize until today, that the new incision is right over my navel button, and goes vertical toward my penis.

Hi everyone
I just had radical prostectomy done. been home about a week now. Its been a rough time from the actual surgery until now.
Im not too sure if Im on the right forum but Im hoping to get some advice with regards incontinence.
Catherter was removed today. Im feeling really down with the dribble situation.

Update - Friday

Been a week and one day since major surgery. Probably doing about as well as I can expect. Today, aside from the pain, I have been feeling very weak, dizzy, and achy all over my body. No fever, no nausea. Simply no appetite whatsoever. Haven't eaten all day, but in process of cooking some eggs at the moment. I see the surgeon Monday morning, looking forward to some kind of update, perhaps he will be willing to remove these large staples out of my belly. Got to get through another weekend of course.

thank you. plans this week didn't quite work out, each afternoon/evening, someone was suppose to come by and check and see if I need help. It happened Tuesday but not since. Good thing I can take care of myself pretty well, sure can't depend on others They are all "too busy".

Hope you are soon posting reports of the mouth watering meals you've eaten & subsequent weight gain...
Know personally how strange it is to have no appetite but, unlike yoou, I am able to eat..

David, as I am sure you (and certainly your wife) know, the symptoms you are describing can mean a lot of different things, including- precursors to kidney problems/failure, early signs of infections (even without fever). If they worsen AT ALL get to a hospital unless you can reach one of your doctors quickly. Don't wait. Prayers continue.

Oh, David, I'm so sorry you have gone through so much with yet another surgery. Have you gotten the pain under control? I still can't believe the bad pain management you've received. Please know that Ron and I have you in our prayers. Still hoping for a better QOL for you!

David, sorry to hear about all you're going through and I hope you get some relief soon. I've got no advice to offer, but do hang in there. We're all praying and hoping that things will take a turn for the better.
