Perhaps the poll may be edited in such a manner as to show results without voting.

I am logged in but cannot see the results. I am not yet diagnosed and do not wish to vote and possibly skew results.

If the poll can be edited in such a manner as to show results then it may also be of benefit to someone who finds it on a search.

Ken, Good point! There is no edit function to do that. People have had that complain since the dawn of internet polling. I can take a screen print and email it to you if you add an email to your profile. Others may have a better idea.

52 for me. That's one good thing about sites such as this. It allows you to realize that there others in your age group with the same challenges.

Thanks for the offer. As a matter of routine, I cleared my cookies last night and lo and behold I can see the results when not logged in. Logged back in and get the opportunity to vote, which was not there till I logged in.

So, that works fine if you know to do it :-)

The results of this poll and the prior one both skew the data toward a younger demographic. My son is 42 and I will be pushing him to get a start on trying to figure out his baseline PSA. I am really surprised by the frequency of PCa dx for guys under 55.

I can think of several reasons the data skews to the left. What makes you think this happens?

Just a guess - maybe it's always been so, but with more sophisticated testing, we are finding it earlier.

There also may a bit of sample bias in the selection, in that part of the difference may possibly be in the age difference of those likely to go to and post in forums.

I agree that there is likely some bias in the sample, since Internet users tend to be a bit younger. Although Internet use is on the rise in older demographics, the population of regular Internet users is skewed towards the younger side: http://www.statista.com/statistics/272365/age-distribution-of-internet-users-worldwide/

In the SEER data, the median age of diagnosis has come down a bit. It's now 66 instead of 67.

I think the difference between SEER data and what we see here amongst ourselves is attributable mostly to this sample bias. Go to a large face-to-face support group meeting and you will see an older cross-section of the population.

My dad is a long-time PCa survivor, and he and his peers who also had PCa never touch keyboards, let alone surf the web.

Suspected at age 60. Been almost a year since an MRI indicated it was likely. And what a crazy year it's been! Biopsy confirmation came at age 61.
