Experience with Edex injections?

Ok, so I had my first "<" on Wednesday (yay). Beyond that, we got to the topic of ED. Still working on that one, but my surgeon says he's confident that will come back for me over time. Ok., we'll see. He asked me if I was willing to try injections (already been doing daily Cialis). He wants to start me on Edex. The appt is in about 10 days. Do any of you have experience with Edex?

The ED should resolve in time. Not sure what Edex really is but a lot of guys here have used injections (bimix, trimix) with good results.

I'd say, give it a try and see what comes up...

We have a number of guys here who have tried alprostadil injections, generally with "success" except for two problems. The first problem is a penile ache. A number of men find that the injections make their member ache. Only a fraction of the men who try alprostadil will get the ache (not sure of the numbers, maybe one in three?) and the ache tends to get better with continued use, but an ache remains the most-reported problem for guys who have tried Caverject or Edex injections (the brand names for alprostadil injections.) The other problem that guys talk about is the price: insurance doesn't like to pay for ED drugs and Edex and Caverject cost something like five times as much as a similarly-effective dose of trimix (a combination of drugs that includes alprostadil in smaller doses.)

You might ask your uro about trimix but there is no reason not to try Edex to see if it will work for you. Just remember that if you find the ache in your member or the pain in your wallet unbearable there are other options available.

Bring up the cost to the Dr. You would be surprised how little they know about the cost of drugs.

Could you tell us what was in your "starter kit" and how many uses you got for the initial $152 or the $60 refills? For comparison, I paid around $150 for a 5ml vial of trimix "super" and that was good for 20 jabs, or $7.50 per use. This is probably on the high end for trimix cost since I used a local compounding pharmacy and the mail-order prices are better, and also because 25 units of super trimix is kind of a lot and most guys will need less than that.

Here's the "starter kit" contents, straight from the package:

Edex cartridge 2 pack alprostadil sterile powder and diluent (20 mcg).
1-reusable injection device with carrying case.
2- single-dose, dual-chamber cartridges.
2- needles.
4- alcohol swabs.

I get the prescription from a compounding pharmacy, Alprostadil 20MCG/ML MDV INJ, it is a liquid, comes in a vial. The refill was actually $90 not $60. The initial prescription lasted me about 6 months, around 25-30 injections.

Peter, I will ask. Where do you find a reputable compounder?

Ok, so I had my visit to the doc today for the first injection. I will say it was just ok. First, did the Edex work? Yes. We started with the lowest dose, which was 1/4 of the vial. I'll say it got me about 60% of the way there. Took about 10 minutes to work. Lasted about an hour? Doc says to bump it up on my own next time to half single-use vial. I think that will do the trick. So what didn't work? The "ache" sometimes associated with Edex? Holy Hannah! Uh, yeah. That lasted another half hour after everything started coming down. Hopefully that will subside, as a few others have reported.

The biggest disappointment? At $80.00 a shot it isn't much of a real option. This state (mn) isn't a big fan of compounding firms since a number of people here were killed during the whole NECC fiasco. I haven't found a lot of viable options from mail order yet either, but am still working on that.

Any suggestions on finding less expensive Edex would be appreciated.
