Confused and scared could be cancer...

I will try to keep this as short and to the point as possible. Approximately 3-4 weeks ago I felt the classic symptoms of prostatitis coming on as I had a bout previously. I am just turned 36 and otherwise healthy. I have discomfort in the pelvic groin area. Urine frequency isn't really bad and occassionaly burning following urination. Went on cipro 3 weeks ago and finished it and felt better then few days later it hit me again and just as hard. Also to not no pain ejaculating or blood in semen.

Pain comes and goes sometimes in lower back and sometime burning pain in thighs, butt, anus. Driving makes it much worse and unfortunately I travel for a living. 2 days ago the pain was so bad on my car trip home of 5 hours I started having panic attacks due to worrying I might have cancer. Transported to hospital to treat me for anxiety which has always been bad but they also ran urine and blood. Blood and urine clean with no bacteria, blood, protein ect. White and red blood cells right at the average. Based on that the doc didn't wish to examine further as he felt the anxiety is the bigger issue. But with the occasional back pain

So now I am out of the hospital and on another round of cipro trying not to freak out. I'm just scared I may have cancer and not sure what else to do. GP won't screen me for PSA as I am too young. Can anxiety be flaring this up and any tips? I do have some Ativan now so hoping that helps calm me. Thanks for reading and any insight so new to prostate problems and couldn't find anywhere to talk

You'd be a very, very rare case if you had PC. Likely you have an infection, protatitis, which can be difficult to treat.

PC generally has no symptoms until it is very advanced and the symptoms you describe aren't consistent with cancer.

Yes, you have something wrong, but check out all other possibilities first. The fact that you travel a lot could account for some of what you having.

Sitting on your butt in your car all day will give you that backache too, does that to me. Perhaps you might consider taking up a serious exercise program to deal with that. Also - a strenuous daily walk or run for maybe 1/2 hour or 45 minutes will tamp down that anxiety. Endorphins are like opiates, only without the side effects.

I am flakey and irritable every morning before I go out with my Labrador for our daily 7 miles. The running really mellows me out. I am an adult survivor of extreme child abuse so I have the associated PTSD emotional disorder to deal with. Serious daily exercise combined with meditation does that for me, leaves me calm and relaxed.

Thanks for the advice on the anxiety as I know now it needs to be dealt with. I guess my concern was the on and off lower back pain and discomfort in the anus that made me think possible cancer based on what I've read... of course the Internet is not the best place to diagnose symptoms.

I have read PC usually presents no symptoms initially but again based on what I read I feel like maybe I do have some symptoms. You mentioned what I mention isn't consistent with cane symptoms but what would? The lower back pain that comes and goes or simply the fact this has been going on for 4 weeks with some days good and some days hell makes me worry...

I think you will find everything you have described to us there.

A "syndrome" is the word the medical community uses for a cluster of symptoms that seem to occur together but, sometimes, for which no particular cause has been clearly identified. Since you are worried that it might caused by prostate cancer you should take some comfort in the fact that, while the description of the syndrome describes your problems very well, nowhere in the speculation about the causes of the syndrome does it mention prostate cancer. That may be the only comfort you find there since CPPS is difficult to treat although it does seem to be more of a problem for young men and you might be justified in hoping it will get better.

But at least you are not alone. There is a whole syndrome complete with fellow sufferers. John Cleese, apparently is one such. I'm not sure how the syndrome is related to his celebrated "silly walk sketch" (here).

Results are 1.4 psa according to nurse but have to wait few days for doc to review with me and what it means. Thanks for help thus far
