PSA after radiation

My husband's initial PSA was in the twenties. He had 8.5 weeks of radiation and six months of Lupron. He still has a bit of Lupron left in his system. (Ask me how I know.)

He just had his first PSA test after radiation, and it was 0.4

We are very pleased.

Ok, I bit! How do you know?

My husband followed a similar treatment path. He had his first post radiation test last week and it came in a 0.03. We were pretty happy. He gets his last (hopefully) Lupron shot on November 16. That stuff is beating the cr*p out of him!

I'm not sure a post-radiation PSA is meaningful until long after the Lupron has left the system. My RO said expect 18-24 months after the Lupron before the PSA is useful. Earlier than that the PSA is measuring the effects of the Lupron. My PSA was 0.1 from the Lupron before the radiation began, and the same after radiation.

Hang in there, Lupron will take 6 months or more to clear out of his system, his libido should return, and hopefully everything will still work as before. His PSA could bounce around for a while, don't get overly concerned. It can be difficult, but stay positive.
It took me several years to really find what I believe to be my nadir.

Has he tried the estradiol patch for hot flashes? I'm on ADT again and have no hot flashes or flushes whereas I had them bad first time around. I use two patches per week as per docs prescription.

I had 37 radiation treatments, PSA before was 1.17, 30 days after treatment PSA was 1.98, some say should have waited 3 months before doing a PSA test, another one in Jan, which will be four months.
