I've noticed a lot of musical references in the posts lately. There's a saying, " we may be getting old, but we got to see all the good bands!"
So Gary often asks "if you could take only 3 albums with you in the afterlife ( yes, you know what an album is ), what 3 would you pick to listen to for all eternity.
My three:Rumors, Led Zeplin best of , Heart best of
I have to give you Gary's tomorrow. He keeps changing his mind and we can't duplicate, because we plan to meet up there!

Songs that bring me back. I enjoy current music, Carrie underwood, Tim MCGraw (funny from a NYC guy, huh?), and other modern stuff. But those songs above really get my blood flowing

1. Celebration Day, Live at the O2 - Led Zeppelin (I really like live music and this basically a greatest hits live)
2. The Wall - Pink Floyd (the soundtrack to my youth)
3. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Live at Montreux - (I'm a guitarist and man needs some blues for his soul)

Interesting that most of us go back to the music that formed us...

A second vote for The Wall. Social Distortion's self-titled 3rd album. David Bowie's Station to Station.

And yes, I have all of these on vinyl. I have 3 turntables in my house and I use a tube pre-amp for listening to vinyl. My 22 year old son has picked up the vinyl habit and probably owns more vinyl than I have.

Electric Ladyland (Jimi Hendrix)
Sticky Fingers (Rolling Stones)

Yes, obviously, with choices like those I am a child of the 60s, and the music of that era has always been very special to me.

No, I wasn't a hippy, in fact I was just the opposite. I was the yes-sir-no-sir-all-the-way-sir-ramrod-straight ROTC cadet. (I grew up in a very conservative, red-white-and-blue family, no peace symbols for me).

But looking back now I much more appreciate, and I think understand, the free thinking of that time, and the exhilaration of it all back then. Everybody had something to say, and everybody needed to be heard.

And the music of that decade, especially if you lived through it, seemed to have a certain magical quality to it, a kind of thumping power to it, especially the war protest songs.

Ah, the memories of it all …

Beatles - Let it Be, Naked - reproduction without phil spector's "wall of sound"

Best of Procol Harum - One of the most underated groups of all time, IMO.

1a. Abbey Road - Beatles
If for nothing else "I want you" for a song to sum up and end the band with.

1b Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin
This album was released a few days after I got out of the army. It led to a lot of wasted and fun times following.


2. 12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus - Spirit
A few may recall my having admitted to being one of the notorious newsgroups MP3 pirates back in the late 90s early 00s. The result my having accumulated many gigs of music. This kind of obscure now album has haunted me for decades.

3. The Golden Age Of Wireless - Thomas Dolby
Not a bad cut on it. One of the best examples of 80s music IMHO.

This thread definitely gets the mind moving. Many greats already mentioned. I will duplicate only one (nice one logo) since it's probably the first album (actually it was an 8 track) that I listened to over and over again.

Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman
Zac Brown - pass the jug (a great live album)

And.... John Mayer - Where the light is

Zeppelin was already covered by many above. Love hair metal ballads and Live too (nice grab Jordan). Simon & Garfunkel - live in Central Park. The Neville Brothers... Soooo many more.
Don't judge me on the John Mayer selection;). It moves me.

I was kind of looking forward to the choirs of angles who were suppose to be singing to me.
Well, I guess it had to happen, you know downsizing the heavenly staff and eliminating the music program to save money. Then requiring everyone to bring their own music.

sigh, things are going downhill everywhere.

I've got a huge collection ... it would be easier to list my TOP 100 than my Top 3 ... I started out with records in my boyhood, a full stereo system in my bedroom with speakers, then 8-tracks as a young teenager, then cassette tapes and "boom boxes" for high school, then compact discs for college ... I have to say, it was great to put an 8-track tape in and have it play all night continuously, when I was a young teenager ...

Been to some great concerts, listen to lots of music ...

Have to go with these:

1. THE EAGLES (Greatest Hits, Volume I & II) --- "One Of These Nights" --- "New Kid In Town" --- "Tequila Sunrise" --- "Best Of My Love" ... you know all the rest ... they were great in concert ... timeless ...

2. THE DOOBIE BROTHERS (Greatest Hits, Volume I & II) --- "Takin' It To The Streets" --- "Minute By Minute" --- "What A Fool Believes" --- if Michael McDonald is singing it, I'm listening to it ...

3. U2 - THE JOSHUA TREE --- the whole album --- my whole college gang road-tripped to see U2 in concert during the heights of the THE JOSHUA TREE tour --- beyond belief --- all the top hits, of course, but I especially like the song "Red Hill Mining Town" which is often overlooked on the album --- plus the song "One Tree Hill" which U2 performed at a funeral for one of their friends ...
