Husband had biopsy today. I think I'm going to vomit

Take a deep breath. It's going to be ok. You don't have enough information. Might be prostititus, etc... Has he had other psas over the years?

Waiting is the worst part. When do the results come back?

Welcome. Sorry you have to be here, but I'm confident I won't be the only one here talking you back from the ledge. Blood work soon after DRE and also after sex can definitely skew the PSA. With luck the biopsy will show nothing. But even if the biopsy does show some level of prostate cancer, the odds are still very good that it is not life threatening. I had a PSA of nearly 10 almost 14 years ago at age 56. In my case it was PCa, but now I'm 69 and still going to grandkids band concerts, and clearing brush and downed trees on local conservation land. When you get the biopsy results, share them here and we will help you interpret them.

The good news is that even if the worst is true there are plenty of treatments and every hope for a good outcome. Life will change and normal will be different, but there will be plenty of life left to live.

It is much, much more likely that your hubby will be just fine than anything else.

I hope the urologist first ruled out any prostate infections or inflammation, that alone can cause elevated PSA. Typically the first thing done is to put a patient on antibiotics for several weeks and then retest PSA.

When my wife and I met with the urologist to get the results of the biopsy my wife almost lost it when he said I had prostate cancer. As for me, I sort of expected a positive result. The first thing the doctor said is you are lucky, "this isn't pancreatic cancer." He said even if I didn't do anything I will still have easily 15 to 20 years to live. And that it can be cured if caught early enough.

Don't get worked up yet. If your husband does have prostate cancer you will have plenty of time to research all of the options and decide on a treatment. Until then relax.

I decided to have robotic surgery, in the OR at 2:30pm and released from the hospital the next morning after eating a large breakfast. Yes I was sore for a few days, but only took a hydrocodone at night to help me sleep. The end result I had both nerves spared, zero E.D., and 99% continent (rarely stress incontinent). In fact, if it wasn't for dry orgasms I would think I never had surgery.

I have been where you are only month ago and since my husbands diagnosis I have learned that getting the results and learning your options will put your mind at ease.

This site has been particularly helpful and comforting.

So I am sure this is a stupid question, but if they took samples from what could be a tumor could those cells break free during the biopsy and spread it to his colon or where ever and also if we have sex would there be a chance the cells could pass to me in his semen? I know I don't have a prostate but could the cells be transferred to me somehow? I know that is a ridiculously stupid question but...

PC cells can only live in the body they belong in. Even if some of his PC cells wound up in his semen, they wouldn't survive inside you.

PC doesn't work like that and I know of no confirmed cases where that has happened.

You are not the first on this forum to ask that question and the answer is no. have you ever heard of a woman with prostate cancer. If it did go say into your colon, you would not have colon cancer , you would have prostate cancer, and be diagnose and treated as such. Different cancers are identifiable[ they look different } under a microscope to a trained pathologist. This is why when prostate cancer metataztise to the lung the cancer is treatable with HT. Lung cancer does not respond to HT. if to the bone it is still pca to the bone, to the bladder, well you get the point. I believe cancer can escape the prostate via needle biopsy. but it is probably very rare and cost benefit analysis goes to the benefit. One thing about the universe. Where there is a loss there is a gain and vice versa its just the way the darn thing became, was created, whatever your viewpoint.

Oh and one more thing...there are no stupid questions...just ask!
