I am doing 40 days of hyperbaric oxygen to try to save my bladder. The RT damage was just too severe, and the 3-week dilations were getting old. Insurance caved, and we are trying something different.

So if I don't answer emails quickly, there is a reason. Trying to do my job on top of 4 hours a day to get to/from and do the sessions isn't leaving much in my day.

I hope things get better for you. You go thru a lot on your own...with very little complaints. keep your faith and worry not the object of such.. faith itself...is its own object. Heresy??? Bah Humbug!!!

Wow, that's a lot to have to do in one day! Take care of yourself.

I am glad you are trying the hyperbaric route and hope it works.

It is an integrative/alternative method that seems to have a lot going for it.

One of my doctors offers it, but I have not had a specific reason to try it.

Good luck on that. Remember I went through 30 of those treatments a year ago August. Do you feel like you are in a glass coffin. I would bring my own DVD movies to watch from home, as their selection sucked. Towards the last 10 treatments, I was getting very antsy about being in the chamber so long.

Coincidentally, I had the following study in my folder "to write about." I hope it gives you encouragement to take that long drive and sit through the boring sessions. As you can see, 9 in 10 men had resolution of their bleeding from radiation cystitis with HBO:

An update - I went from free flow to total urinary blockage about 2 am yesterday. Went to the ER, they cathed me with great difficulty. Went home, then off to the Oxygen treatment. Noticed the bag was not filling, but near the end of the session my bladder gave way around the cath. Poor therapy folks - I bet they've seen worse, but...

So off to the ER again, flushed the cath, 200 ml of mainly debris. Got home, and all was well until an hour ago. Seems I'm stopped up again, bleeding, leaking, so may be another ER run today.

Speculation is that all this healing generated a lot of scar tissue inside the urethra, thus the total block.

Not looking forward to more days with Cathy the catheter.

I haven't been around often and I'm very sorry to read posts like this from friends. So sorry 142. I hope things improve soon. We still have to have another Scotch tasting party. I could not participate the last time because I had to drive back to the hotel.
