One Dr. said to avoid radiation at all costs due to high risk of bowel or urinary trac issues
Let me go out on a limb and guess that this guy is a surgeon.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement! I am going to go to UT S/W and see what they suggest. Just hope they take Medicare! The Oncologist I was referred to is the best according to my Urologist but when you know nothing about them you have to reserve judgment until you meet with them. Kind of like an auto mechanic but with more dire circumstances! LOL.. Lot of mechanics out there that will say they can fix anything, but you don't want to risk one doing more damage than good to your "auto"

GOP, thanks for the feedback. I had heard the same thing and main reason I chose RALP was that RT was good but side effects took long time to show up and to resolve. Also, if RT is done first, surgery became more problematic due to scar tissue issues.

Texan...sorry to hear about this. I agree that it makes sense to treat an aggressive cancer aggressively. While I have no Medicare experience yet, I don't recall seeing stories here of any mainstream treatments not being covered so I don't think that will be a hurdle for you.

Has anyone out there ever had a consult with Dr. David Samadi in New York? He seems to be a real expert in this field. Just wondering. He has a website www.prostate911.com that you can ask questions on and has some good info. Just wondering if anyone has ever had any feedback from him.

Dr. Samadi is a surgeon. Since you have already been operated on he would not be the one to see. You are high risk and now need to see the medical oncologist and radiation oncologist. The surgeon's job is done.

You have some really good centers that have been mentioned in the various posts. You are probably looking at HT, radiation, and potentially chemotherapy. All are covered through Medicare. Best thing now is to get a medical oncologist that is experienced with your high risk situation and show you their good results with men in your situation.

I respect your diligence in attempting to find the best option for you. That is what I wanted for me, and I sincerely want it for you as well. But while you have 'heard' about what may or may not happen, I have lived it for 5 years.
I chose a treatment (LDR brachy) that gave me at least as good a chance (and some studies say better) than surgery. My treatment lasted one day, and my recovery was roughly 2 weeks. My sex life has never been better, and my continence is excellent. My psa has been less than 0.1 for more than 4 years.
I am eternally grateful for my good fortune, and I wish that every man who is seeking treatment could find the same results as I have.
There is quality life after a PC diagnosis. Don't let anyone tell you that you are not a good candidate for a particular treatment unless he is an expert in that field
