Sitting in a restaurant in Long Beach, Cali, scrolling thru my Facebook feed, and that's how I found out. I don't know why, but it hit me hard, different than hearing of any other celebrity's death. I loved that guy. And I have always loved the Eagles.
I've been to see them twice in recent years, Long Road out of Eden Tour, and more recently, last year I think, History of the Eagles Tour. I really hoped to be able to see them one more time. Now it's not gonna happen.
Just like when I saw them in concert, when I found out about Glenn's death, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. Just in a different way.
My kids actually texted me condolences.
It's been on my bucket list, to go stand on that corner in Winslow Arizona. Now I have to do it. And I'm not sure when, but I will, and I won't wait too long.
RIP, Glenn Frey, one of the true legends, a tragic, untimely loss.
Standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona
What a fine sight to see!
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me!
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
Drive you crazy.
You may lose or you may win,
But you'll never come this way again.
So lighten up, my old friend,
And take it easy!
Those have got to be some of the best musical lines ever written. Can't tell you how often they pop into my head for no reason. No reason, except it's such an awesome tune that really sticks in your head, and has a message well worth reminding yourself of, from time to time. It just never gets old. Not for me.
And how much more meaningful do those words become, after you've been diagnosed with cancer?
