A little blood came out and I've got a fairly big bruise. I did apply pressure for several minutes, but still got the bruise.
There's no pain involved and my google searching hasn't revealed any alarming issues. ("The bruising will go away over time.") So I'm not overly concerned.
Anyone else have a similar experience and any information to share?

Yep, no big deal, you either:
1: hit the right spot and blood popped up into your syringe at about
hub depth, which was the plan all along. The spot where you are trying to inject is essentially a big vein, though it does have some additional flesh in there other than just blood. sometimes blood leaks out the hole after you pull the needle out. Or
2: You pierced a surface vein on your way in. Hopefully you did not also inject into this shallow, surface vein, but even if you did and got no side effects, no big deal. But, very likely to bleed and/or bruise if you do that. It can be a bear missing those veins. For me, that really limits the available surface area for injecting. But, even if you puncture one of those surface veins, if you keep on going deeper, it might still work after you get the Grand Mal Hemorrhage stopped(or even if you don't!).
And you are probably going to have a bruise. Did your injection work?
