Welcome to the good side Krg. Sleepy is good..sore is normal, we'd be worried if you weren't sore.
Grin and bear the next few days, then it gets wayyyy easier.

Wow, is this a new record? Reporting out the night after surgery? No way, even if I'd had the means, that I could have. I was too strung out.
Welcome to the other side, K. We'll be here to help you through the next steps. First thing: they'll stand you up soon and take you for a walk down the hall. IV pole in your left hand, cath bag in your right, butt hanging out in back. Shuffle, Shuffle, Shuffle.

I seem to recall we had one guy whose friend loaned him a smart phone to report in from the recovery room.
So, KRG, you aren't the record holder.
It's good to hear from you, though.
Sounds like you are doing fine.

Thanks for checking in, KRG! Let the healing begin. Take care and hang in there. Be careful about
avoiding heavy lifting-- more than a few pounds--for awhile, but walk a lot I'm sure your doc told you as well. but it's common advice on the forum as well.

Dear KRG75,
I've been thinking about
you and was hoping to hear that you made it through your surgery with flying colors ...
Time to rest and relax and recuperate, day by day !
Keep us informed on your progress --- just wanted to send along my wishes for recovery and to let you know I was thinking about

Hang in there, recovery really starts when the cath is removed. Relax and do everything the doc suggests.

Day 1 after surgery was to be expected I guess. Went home around 5 pm. My hospital stay wasn't the greatest I don't think. Surgery team was awesome but the care staff in my room was less then par. They won't be getting a favorable review from me. Stomach started to wake up. A lot of gas.

Keep pushing forward krg. Walk as much as you can. Walk slowly, but walk. Do a mile a day. Doesn't have to be all at once. But keep moving around.,it will help on a lot of levels, and will, make you feel like you are taking control back. After a week, or when you feel up to it, whichever comes first, set a new goal of 2 miles a day.

Welcome to the other side Krg75!
As Prato said, get moving, throw the catheter in a bag and walk some every couple of hours.
The next big milestone is your first bowel movement! Use stool softeners to ease the process.

That first shower is also a mile stone that will feel great. Push yourself, but not to hard.

Day 2 post operation. Today was a good day. Walked on and off for about
1.5 hours. Surprised how tired I get after walking for 30 min. Took a couple of naps. Had kind of bowel movement. More of squat and squirt but have been gassy all day. Came home with my drain tube in from the hospital. Hopefully getting that out tomorrow has the draining is real low. Will check in tomorrow. Thanks everyone for checking up on me.

Since guys find it reassuring to be told that their experience is similar to others I will mention that you seem to be more or less on track. You should try to complain more, though. You should be grouchier at this point. Otherwise you're fairly typical.
Walking is good and when you aren't walking, recline. Staying vertical when you aren't walking tends to make things swell. (That's "swell" in the puffy, uncomfortable and slightly purple sense of the word, not the "hunky dory" one.)
Keep up the good work.

You do seem to be on the typical track. I didn't have a drain to deal with, so you're one-up on me. Otherwise, keep eating the fiber, drinking the water, and taking the dulcolax. Keep walking as you're able, and try not to let daytime TV drive you too crazy.

Echo.
Good job on the walking,
I had the drain in for over 24 hours, they wanted to send me home with it, and give me instructions for removing it. But I am not as rave as you so I refused. The second day, at around 9pm, at the 12th hour, so to speak, they took it out and sent me on my way.
You seem to be following a typical path.

Welcome back. 3 weeks here and things get better everyday. My one fault is I overdid it my first day home. Family in town and tried to be up and about
with them. Paid for it that night.

Day 3 post opp. I slept pretty good last night. Adjusting to life in a recliner I guess. Got my drain tube pulled today. Weirdest feeling I have felt but I am sure the cath being pulled will be much worse. Glad the drain is out though. Was bumping that thing on everything. Put the leg bag on today and actually felt semi normal. Been watching a wicked tuna marathon all day. I know exciting. Starting to get anxious feeling for the pathology report. Prying for the best. Have a great night everyone.

Krg, we're all praying with you, for a good path report.
Btw, I agree the drain pull was really really weird. I found the cath pull to actually be much less weird, and easier. FWIW

Day 5 post opp. Today was a great day! Had my first bowl movement since the operation and I got my pathology report back saying all is clear. Gleason stayed at 7 (3+4). I will get more of the numbers when I see the doc on Friday to get my foley out hopefully. Walked 2.5 miles today as well. Hopefully now I can get some sleep. I want to thank everyone on here for the prayers and well wishes.

K -
Sounds like your experience mirrored mine. I went home about
5:00 pm the night after surgery, and walking really helped. I was up walking in the hospital almost as soon as my head cleared, and that night about
3:00 I got up and walked so far my wife and the floor nurses were looking frantically for me!
I think it was Pratoman who said the cath removal wasn't as weird as the drain, and I agree totally but that may be because I was just ready to get rid of the thing (cath) by that time. Doc actually removed the drain right before I was released from the hospital and yes - the feeling is not one I care to experience ever again. Definitely keep up the walking! It became something I just did because I looked forward to it - not because I had to. Wicked Tuna, eh? I watched every "Fast and Furious" episode during my week. LOL
The things I will tell you going forward is to start each day with coffee and Kellogg's All Bran Buds (but not necessarily together) to make sure the BM's are easy. That did the trick for me - just a couple of table spoons on top of raisin bran (or any other favorite cereal) was all it took. Also, doing the Kegel exercises religiously got me back to full continence w/n 2 weeks - and I stopped pads a week after that. HOWEVER - keep in mind there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. For me it was the latter, and 9 months later I'm still paying for it every time I sit down for more than about
5 minutes - but hey, I'm not peeing my pants so there's that.
Keep up the good work, brother! Be glad your excellent medical care most likely saved your life!

Good advice from Skiing Texan, krg, and congrats, it's a relief to see no upgrade on the path report.
Keep up the good work
