Lupron: 6 month injection

I have had 2, 6 months Lupron injections with a 6 break in between. First 6 month injection
went well. No desire for sex. ( If I had , had it in college I would have made straight "A"s)
Second injection, two weeks ago, after a 6 month break, and I still have a desire for sex but
can't get relief, if you know what I mean. No hot flashes yet. Are all shots the same?

All shots are the same but every man is different.

I've had an RP and 4 month Lupron shots over the last 16 months and I am essentially a eunuch.
No desire whatsoever.
I am curious what happens once I go on my Lupron vacation in January.
I know Mr Woody will not make an appearance but I guess I expect the desire to eventually re-appear.

It would help if you created a signature, as others more knowledgeable than I can give better advice.

It sounds like 1, 3, and 6 months Lupron injections are available. How does that work, is it like a time-release mechanism? Is there any advantage to the longer duration beyond convenience?

Would like to hear from anyone on Lupron. How long did it take for sexual desire to disappear?
After several weeks after my 6 month shot, still have the desire, but can't do anything about it.

Are you taking daily Viagra or Cialis as part of the Lupron protocol? I was prescribed daily 20mg Viagra while on HT, and I know others were too.

I was on degarelix for two months, at the end of the first month I still had desire but I also still had a prostate.

Soon as I had my RP, there was no steam in the shovel. No fuel to fire the steam.

But my third month (1st Lupron) I noticed an immediate distinct diff in my interest of the female of my species. none

Oper, not on Lupron but an Orchiectomy, zero desire from day one, but with an Orchiectomy your T is basically down to zero in 2.5 hrs.

For me it's a good thing. I don't have a partner and don't plan one in the future. (Real nasty divorce at time of Dx) Non-nerve sparing surgery is also a limiting factor. So with no one to "satisfy", including myself, I have no frustration. I've often thought what I'd do if I were in a relationship and the first thing would be a heart to heart with my partner, then work things out, there are many ways to be intimate. I've accepted the "new normal" and am quite comfortable with it.

Had first Lupron shot 2 months ago. Lots of hot flashes. Libido nonexistent. Problem with weight gain, hungry all the time.

Bob, you should have your Testosterone level checked to be sure the Lupron worked as planned..In some men, it simply does not have the desired effect. Ideally, you want your "T" level to be below 10 To neutralize any remaining "T" they will sometimes prescribe a drug called Casodex...Yeah, the 1,3, 4 and 6 month shots are achieved with a timed release mechanism.

Some MO's like to start off with a 1 or 3 month shot so they can observe its effect..Some men simply can not or will not tolerate the side-effects. If they start you off with a 6 month duration shot, you are locked in....As time goes on, the effect of the drug becomes more and more permanent and after 2.5 or 3 years don't expect much of a recovery if they take you off it...Also, if you are on 3 month office visits, by giving you a shot at the same time, the whole procedure becomes much more profitable for the doctor..Those shots are not cheap and they have a big mark-up..

Fairwind, Thank you. I never thought of having my testosterone level checked. Will check with my Doc. As I said I had a 6 month shot previously, then off for 6 months, now back on again a few weeks ago.
I think my "desire" is waning. It is confusing as I remember sex in the old days and would be nice again. However I feel good and have a nice life...... no hot flashes yet.

I can agree with all posts. I am on my 2nd treatment of Eligard (same family),3 months, and have consistent night sweats. It is tolerable, but not bad during day. Lost my wife last may so the sex part does not bother me. No desire anyway. I excersice everyday and eat very well on a Dash diet.

I'm just finishing a 3 year sentence on Lupron (and Casodex). I've been on 6 month shots most of the time, except I moved and changed oncologists in 2014. New onco wanted 4 month shots just so she could see me 3 times a year. Side effects seem no different, and my T has been below 10 when it's been checked.

My hot flashes started about 5 weeks after the first shot, and have never let up. Some men don't get them, some do. For some reason, they're more intense and frequent during the first month after a shot. No idea why.

Loss of libido is real, but I don't remember when that started. It was probably fairly early on, within the first few months anyway. Oddly enough, with all I've been through, the little guy can still "respond" fairly well. I just don't care. As our buddy Sonny said, on hormone therapy sex is about as interesting as mowing the lawn or loading the dishwasher.

When we do have an intimate time, it's quite enjoyable and fulfilling. But it's rare.

I've seen that the side effects of each 6-month shot vary widely. I suppose it has to do with the timing, and what level my T was at the time. But yes, each period after a shot has been different.

As to the 6-month shot, it is all my insurance will pay for. They are trying to save a buck or two on cost and doctor's office fees. They even made me go through a review and appeal for the last one (Jan '16), so the gap was bigger, and the SEs have been much more pronounced these last few weeks.
