To each his own. But, personally, I believe in fighting. Always trying, never giving up. That is my creed.
Have you considered that in the clinical trials, your father may have been in the control group, which would have meant he was getting no treatment at all, when his PSA soared? I don't know if there is any way of finding that out.
I can totally relate to the worries caused by your father's frail condition. I have lost 60 pounds, at least, and am kind of afraid to get on a scale anymore, because I am so skeletal. Blood veins showing everywhere, like I'd never seen in my life. A little hard to take for a guy who used to be pretty pumped up.
But I am not as old as your dad, and my energy/strength levels are still pretty decent (still working), in spite of my frail appearance, so I thank God for small favors, and try to learn humility.
Getting back to your questions, although I don't have an answer, I think the previous posters have made many good points. Remember this: there are new treatments coming on line all the time, and one of these days they are going to crack the case on PCa. That's why I say keep up the fight, but you may want to search for a treatment with minimal side effects. Provenge comes to mind, or other immunotherapy type of treatment.
Good luck, John. i wish you and your father all the best. Don't give up the fight!
