Hello to my second family.

We left for a month snowbird adventure almost a week ago. The place we booked here in Palm Desert is nice and meets our needs perfectly.

So, cross the snowbird thing off my bucket list!! The weather is nice.

I am lurking just a bit, but am pretty much taking a break from HW.

I have doctor appointments Mon and Tues. Can't get away from this d*** disease.

Will be seeing family for a few days too as our daughter and her husband live in Santa Monica (near these doctors). I'm sure we will have a Superbowl Party at their place, too.

Tall Allen and John T, hope to get in touch with you, too

Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

We are going to try again for the Hawaii trip we cancelled last year when Gary didn't feel up to it. Amazing, really, that it's been a whole year and he actually feels better now than he did then. He was just dx' d with liver mets at that time and his PSA was doubling every 4 weeks.

Hope your Dr visit goes well and you have fun with the family. If you don't already have a team your rooting for, you can cheer on the Broncos with me! yeah

Regarding cheering for a team?

I am a Lions fan.

That kind of says it all.

I'm sure we will have a few pools going. That will constitute my rooting interest!

I'm rooting for a competitive, fun game.

Beth - be careful if you or Gary decide to paddle board in Hawaii. There's a guy that lives a mile away from me that was attacked by a 14 foot tiger shark when he was recently off of Wailea Beach in Maui. Actually it attacked his board. I saw him last weekend and he's got the board at his house, teeth marks included.

Thanks for the heads up Gunner! I may do a little splashing about, but I think I'll leave the surfing to Bozo Logo (who has disappeared again, btw). I'm hoping Gary has the energy to do some sightseeing. No chance he will jump in the ocean! We will be spending time with friends on the Big Island (Hilo). Its our first trip to HI. Do you live on Maui?

No Beth I'm in Mn. Except when I'm in my long scans, then my mind goes back to that same beach where this recent shark attack happened. Vacationed there for 12 days 10 years ago

Thanks for the update, Mel. Got me looking forward from working out of community commitments that keep me rooted here to NH and prioritizing relaxation and scenic variety.

After Sunday's storm, which had the strongest winds in recent memory, I think we're in for a week or so of very nice weather and it's supposed to start warming up. Enjoy your snowbirding!

Here in Florida is pretty nice this time of year, but the winter months in California are pretty sweet too.

Sit in a chair at the water's edge on a beach there, listening to the ocean's roar, and feel the tide lapping up against your feet, while a gentle breeze blows and the sun beams down on the rest of you!

Hi Mel,

I am sure you will enjoy your month in Calif. I always miss the sour dough bread and prawns but that might just be in Northern Calif. where I used to live.

Glad you didn't come to Florida, we are knee deep in "snowbirds" right now. When I go into a store, all I hear are Northern accents and French speaking Canadians.

Are you going to make Sonny 's GFMPH in April? We'll be there, even if it is only for Saturday. Had a great time in 2014 and I'm anxious to meet some of the newbies I missed in Rochester.

In case you didn't know, some folks use an email address on HW different than the one they usually use, and they rarely check their HW email address.
So, at times, if it is an important and/or timely email, it helps to mention it.

GFMPH Florida is only every other year. $99 hotel rooms and all the food you can eat in sunny Florida! How can you miss that?

Like I said, I will probably only make it for Saturday, going on a cruise the following weekend for a week.

Leaving for Santa Monica later today. Going to spend time with my daughter and her husband. Got medical appointments Monday and Tuesday. I really HATE how PC -- especially when incurable -- interferes with every aspect of your life.

Starting Wednesday, we will travel down the coast and stop/stay wherever we want. No particular place reservations. We will get back to our condo on Friday or Sarurday.

Saw a great show: The Texas Tenors. We had seen them once before during a Branson vacation. We enjoyed seeing them again. I highly recommend them. We have also booked another show for the 13th: a Bee Gees tribute band, "Stayin' Alive."

Mel, annoyed to an extent, but not letting it get to me, despite the "HATE" characterization!

If you tell this to YOUR DOCTOR on Monday or Tuesday, it's very possible that he will advise you to "...makes sure that his life doesn't become only about the cancer, and understands that pleasure is essential."


I say that with some confidence because although I haven't met YOUR DOCTOR, I do know that he has communicated this exact message to other patients in your situation.

Despite what you wrote, it does seem like you are trying...

BTW, Feb 11-21 is Modernism Week in Palm Springs, if you're interested in mid-century architecture and design. A lot of the events and tours are somewhat expensive, but might be worth checking out. I believe the Double Decker bus tour is affordable.

OK, update time. Today and tomorrow I will be dealing with the elephant in the room!
I will be seeing Dr. Chris King today at UCLA Radiation Oncology here in Santa Monica. He is an expert in SBRT and I want to discuss that, since last time we imaged we saw PC in one small iliaac node. Not sure what will happen on my next image (scheduled for whenever my current HT vacation runs out). I want to discuss probabilities, SE, etc. I also want to have everything in place should we decide to go ahead with this down the road.

Tomorrow, I have my annual meeting with Dr. Lam. I intend to bring up what I find out today. Other than that, we might be discussing some other health issues (my cholesterol was quite high in a test a month ago, etc.). Fortunately, I was undetectable PSA-wise last month, so I imagine there will be no change in my specific PC tx. situation.

On the real positive side, I am looking forward to meeting Tall Allen tomorrow
