This guy's videos, which have been pointed out by other members here before, for me add a little entertainment to the whole subject of battling various diseases, including cancer and more specifically including prostate cancer. First off, I can't vouch for any of the information he supplies in his video, I have not checked the actual studies, and these are obviously not RCT studies. So who knows? So FWIW, YMMV and buyer beware etc. etc.
What it is doing is looking at a study (probably in vitro study if I was to guess but I have not looked it up) to measure the ability of various plant foods(34) in our diets to slow down the growth rates(proliferation) of 8 different cancers. Each specific cancer gets a test against each specific plant.
The idea of the video is: you arrive at the salad bar. Now what do you pick what to eat in order to best help your fight against the cancer beast? He starts with choosing our lettuce: there's 4 or 5 choices, and one of them is spinach. He then goes on to show the results of the testing done with spinach against all the different cancers. And spinach indeed turns out to be an all-star against almost all of the cancers: #1(among the lettuce) and a large reduction against prostate, breast, stomach etc. etc.(although not every of the even great plants is effective against every cancer) He then checks to see what will be in second place, among the lettuce, and it is radicchio. Then he gets into things that we might add to our salads, and things like garlic and onions and leeks are the most powerful available(even more so than spinach and broccoli), followed closely by the cruciferous vegetables.
Now note, some of the vegetables that people often include their salads have essentially zero effect on the majority of the cancers tested. For example carrots and tomatoes were not a great performers overall, nor cucumbers and several others.(But shredded beets were spectacular in all tested accept kidney, and cucumbers and also tomatoes did reasonably well on PC and not much else) So if you're going to eat a salad anyway, and assuming you could find some vegetables on the all-star list that you like, why not emphasize those?
Anyway, fun video in my opinion. Wouldn't it be a hoot if any of this actually turned out to be true and applicable to human beings rather than just something in the laboratory?
