Hi guys. I'm 63 and first found the prostate cancer at 51 years of age. it was a 7.5 gleason and had spread to the testicular walls. With radiation and a lengthy application of Lupron, I was able to keep my PSA down to around 2.5 for all these years. Early last year it quickly accelerated to 35. Did chemo and started back up on Lupron last year. PSA dropped to 1.7, 6 weeks later at 2.6, then 6 weeks later at 13. My next treatment is Provenge. Just recently I read where fish oil can contribute to prostate cancers and especially aggressive ones, so I stopped taking it. Can anyone suggest other routes I can take to extend my time on this earth??
Thanks
Are you asking more about
natural approaches like the fish oil? If so, as you may already be aware, the world of studies can be a world of conflicting ones. For example, you were probably taking fish oil based on some studies indicating it was good for your health, but late come some other studies that seem to suggest the opposite. And I'm afraid that is how it is in all of these studies on non-prescript
ion stuff. Large scale Randomized Control Trials- RCTs- are rare on anything non-prescript
ion, for one reason due to expense. There is little money to be made by proving something you can get at the grocery store is really helpful for whatever.
But whatever your research leads you to, I suggest you clear it with your doctor most especially if you are undergoing some sort of treatment. For example, some treatments rely on Reactive Oxygen Species(ROS). But guess what fights ROS? Yep, anti-oxidants. So, even if it is true that anti-oxidants(at least in your diet) may lower over all risk for various cancers, if you decide to start loading up on powerful anti-oxidant pills during some treatments, you might end up fighting against your treatment. So check with your doc before doing that.
As for what other treatments you might need than what you have planned, I'll leave that to someone else, and they should be along shortly. Good luck on your search!
