Scan results to find the cause of my rising PSA - Onco meeting Friday

My fellow Pca Warriors, here is the latest in the world of my Pca.

I had full body CT scans and Nuclear Bone Scan today. You have to love the modern technology, because the results were posted to the Patient Portal by the time I got home and I have already read them.

The Bone Scan came back completely clear AGAIN. I have been dodging this bullet from the beginning and hope to continue.

The CT scans did show increase in size in the known nodes and added only one new small node. I am taking this as extremely good news. Also the scans showed absolutely no organ involvement at all.

With my PSA rise of 36 to 118 in three months and a further rise from 118 to 143 this last month, I was expecting a real explosion in node involvement.

I see my Onco on Friday and unless he has a compelling reason to use Lupron only, I am ready to do the Lupron plus Taxotere treatment plan. There is just too much evidence in the last couple of years indicating the improved efficacy of this route to not do it.

For those that might ask about radiation to the nodes; Back in January of 2014 I flew to LA to have nodes zapped and was advised by the Vice Chair of Radiation Oncology at UCLA to not do it. The field would be too wide and would overlap the area where I had SRT radiation. The chances of QoL affecting side effects it just too great to take the chance. As most of you know I am all about the Quality over Quantity of Life to much to take these chances.

So Sherry and I are celebrating this news tonight and I look forward to Friday's meeting with the Onco.

Today is truly another "Bonus Day" in my world.

I do see some good news in your post, so there's some celebrating to be done there ...

I agree with your assessment, just from the perspective of a fellow "Battle Brother" --- that with the rise in PSA, there's something going on there --- that seems to be flagging your attention.

Yes, certainly a detailed discussion about the impact that chemotherapy might have on your case would be a great "next step" discussion --- remembering that chemo can and DOES attack cancer cells that the ADT hormone shots can't fully attack by themselves --- plenty of research there to show that --- and plenty of first-hand testimonials from many of us here who have pursued the chemo treatments in addition to the ADT hormone shots.

Meanwhile --- form that tight bond with your doctors --- lay your cards on the table with them --- get that good discussion going about treatment options --- and let us know how your treatment plan unfolds.

That is really good news, I agree! I also think you are doing the right thing with the chemo route over radiation with the PSA going up. Get it before it gets to the bones or organs. Good luck!
