Mike had Da Vinci radical prostatectomy on Wednesday, April 13th at Baptist Hospital, Jacksonville. Florida, Dr. Vashi, and is home after one night in hospital.

Not feeling well today...stomach swollen, one episode of vomiting, no appetite, hot and cold flashes (no fever), blood at end of penis where catheter is inserted. On-call nurse says all is normal. With all of that, we are glad to be on the other side and looking forward to recovery and praying for a good report from pathology on Monday when he sees the doctor to get the catheter removed. Catheter hasn't been a big deal so far.
Surprisingly we're both feeling kinda blue tonight...
Hoping for a better day tomorrow.

I can certainly understand why you're blue--that's a traumatic event that you both went through. Every day will get better from here on out.

Feeling blue is very normal whenever an individual undergoes something of stress and anticipation. An example that I have experienced Is marathon running{or any long distance event…swimming lidat qualifies}.. there is always this let down…the " is that all there is syndrome".. The juices will return and he will be up and "running" again. Based on the stats you presenting I predict a prostate contained negative margin and seminal vessels. I doubt nodes were dissected but the negative
SVI negates the need any way.. Good luck keep walking, drinking water{ don't go nuts on it tho} There will be ups and owns on the recovery which also is normal...

Hi, I had Da Vinci on 11 April.
Going home next day would be hard (I stayed 4 days).
Night 2 knocked me around (hot, shakes,pain).
But no pain since arriving home.
Catherta out in two days hopefully.
Urgh - off now to take some laxative drink.

Make sure he does the following:

Get out the chair and walk around the house at least once an hour
Drink LOTS of water (yes, I know it means dumping the bag a lot)
Take his stool softeners and metamucil
When he feels up to it in a day or two, put on the leg bag and sweats and get out of the house (I pushed a cart around home depot)

The first BM will be a cause for celebration

Congrats on making it through. Best of luck as he recovers. Once the catheter is removed, life improves greatly. I walked as much as I could, but when I was tired, I simply rested. I am a runner, so was missing that, but was able to start running again about 3 weeks after the surgery (my URO said that was fine). Be sure he listens to his body, takes his time, and does what he feels like he is able to do. I took lots of naps! Of course, I had just retired from being a school principal, so I was able to do that.

Welcome to the other side! Remember to have him walk as much as possible. The stomach bloating will go down. Wishing you a great pathology report.

Welcome to the other side. Blues are normal. I held up fine through the surgery, but cried for an hour after it was over. Relief maybe(?)... Sending you our prayers for a complete, speedy recovery with little (to zero) side effects and an awesome post-op pathology report.

Be prepared for the incontinence.
My catherta was removed yesterday (day 7) and I was incontinent all day. Seem to have better bladder control today. Now to get back to the pelvic floor exercises.
