Good advice from dietician for those getting RT

Just wanted to pass this along since it seems to be helping me. Maybe there are others that can benefit. In addition to the low fiber diet she also recommended the probiotic Culturelle and a soluble fiber called Benefiber.

While I'm at it I wanted to ask if any of you have taken Flomax and are there any downsides to doing this while getting RT.

I think those are great dietary tips. I buy the generic version of Metamucil as the soluble fiber. I also make my morning oatmeal with a scoop of oat bran, which is also soluble.

I do think it's a good idea to start on Flomax early, as a prophylactic measure, and naproxen too (and daily low dose ED meds). Especially important for the combo therapy you're doing. It's always easier to prevent problems than to stop them after they take hold. I recommend seeing a proctologist before you get started - getting rid of any internal hemorrhoids that might get inflamed later.

I am taking naproxen for my knee - I take it with Prevacid so I don't get an upset stomach.

I took daily Viagra (20 mg) for 9 months to prevent radiation-induced vascular damage to the penile artery. I don't know if it helped, but I have never had an ED problem. The research was done at MSK:

If you have lower urinary tract symptoms, the doctor can prescribe daily Cialis for that. It will be covered by insurance, whereas it probably will not be covered if prescribed for ED.
