Shocked by "sticker price" of biopsy

I picked up on the idea of using Bostwick Labs from another thread.I have just had a biopsy which showed my Gleason Score increasing from 6 to 7 (3+4) and my Urologist has recommended i continue with Active Surveillance probably based more on my age than anything.I was originally diagnosed 11 months ago...Stage 1..GC 6. I have decided to get a second opinion from somewhere and was thinking about Johns Hopkins until i saw the message which favorably mentioned Bostwick. I went to their website and dont see where Dr.Bostick is still the Med Director so i was wondering if anyone on this thread can direct me to any information about Bostwick Labs more recent than 2010.Thanks. As a new member i am amazed by the amount of information and help which is available on this forum.

David Bostwick actually left Bostwick Labs last year. The company he founded retains his name and his well-trained staff. Here's the press release from 2015:

When you use Bostwick or Epstein's lab, you aren't necessarily getting the eye of those men. What you are getting is the expertise of the staff they trained who specialize in the prostate cancer pathology. You should feel comfortable relying on either.

Well I decided to use Johns Hopkins Pathology Group for my Second Opinion. I received their report yesterday and I guess I am happy their evaluation was exactly the same as the Pathologist who performed the initial evaluation of my two biopsies. I had hoped that perhaps the May,2016 biopsy in which my Gleason Score increased to 3+4=7 compared to the September, 2015 biopsy of 3+3=6 might have been inaccurate, but apparently it wasnt. I still dont feel very educated in understanding a lot about Prostate Cancer,but i do know that any increase in Gleason isnt good. I should be sitting down with my Urologist to discuss the Second Opinion soon. My next Active Surveillance step is a PSA test scheduled for early October.

I have a couple of items i am thinking about now.
1.Should i make an appointment to see an Oncologist of some type to have him/her look at my biopsy reports and see if he/she agrees with my Urologist's recommendation of Active Surveillance? My Urologist is part of a group which includes Radiation Oncologists and probably others.

2.Should i consider switching doctors ? My Urologist has 27 years of experience dealing only with Prostate Cancer, but there is Cancer treatment in Atlanta which is one of the 67 highest rated cancer treatment centers in America....Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University....where i suspect i would be dealing with highly skilled people of various disciplines and perhaps receive a broader scope of attention to my condition/situation. I'm not unhappy with my Urologist but I'm also not thrilled with the way some things have been handled including his explanation of my status and his seeming unwillingness to provide objective analysis of other programs ...treatment methods etc i have raised with him. Maybe that is normal, or at least because I am old and he figures....and has said...that my age, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes will cause my death before my Prostate Cancer will based on the evaluation of my biopsies to date..
Anyway i plan to make that evaluation /decision in next two months and right now am leaning toward a change to make sure i am getting the best attention to my condition possible.

Any thoughts or suggestions are always welcome. Not sure if this was proper location for this post.Hope so.

Thanks for your comments. I thought i should maybe start a new thread but i was actually trying to find my prior post on my case to add this update but couldnt find it. Anyway i appreciate your input. I havent yet quite figured out how to navigate this website very well.

My current Urologist has not inspired me very much to date. I know he is experienced but it seems to me that i have to initiate anything that happens in my case and his communication when we meet is not as educational as i would like. He has continued to recommend AS and i continue to agree because i dont want any treatment if it wont make any real difference in my case.That said if it will then i would change my current thinking. If you were me with the increase from G6 to 3+4=7 would you make a change at this time? I do have another Urologist in my immediate area who is highly regarded and i called his nurse who told me he has conducted over 800 prostate cancer procedures....maybe i should try him instead? It is hard to get a bead on the capability of doctors...or at least i havent been able to do it in my small city area.

If insurance covers it, don't worry bout it.
