....It is time for universal medical coverage run by the federal government.
Trust me, you don't want that. I've been in VA health care for a few years which would be a prototype for national health care. Basically I get rationed care. My VA doc and team (clerk, LVN, RN) have over 1,000 patients they are responsible for. Any specialized care in the VA system usually requires a 150 mile round trip for me.
Our neighbors to the north (Canada) that can afford it, head south for treatment so they don't have to wait weeks or months for surgery/treatment/etc. in their national health care system.
Health care is screwed up enough without getting more federal bureaucracy involved.I was trying to avoid this conversation because, like paying for biopsies, it is a bit of an American issue. However, I just have to say that I've had top notch treatment in Canada and I continue to get excellent follow up treatment since my robotic surgery. I never had to wait for surgery - in fact I put it off because I wanted to get a vacation in beforehand. I've never paid a dime for any treatments as it is all covered under public health insurance. The reason that some wealthy Canadians head south is due to the fact that your population is bigger and therefore it stands to reason you would have a higher percentage of the top specialists in certain fields. It has nothing to do with the system.
