It sounds like a bureaucratic nightmare. I guess Johns Hopkins is a lot more formal about referrals than they are here in California. Here, I can usually just call a doctor's office to set up a visit, or at least with one of his staff if he's a head honcho. Have you tried calling Antonarakis directly?

This has not been my experience. I had a very unique and serious kidney issue in 2007, and I researched and found that the leading edge researcher on that malady was 45 miles away at JH. So, I just called and made an appointment. Simple as that.
When she saw my psa, she said I should see Dr.X. So, I called and got an appointment with Dr. X. MD, PhD, Professor of Uro-Oncology, just like that.
No problem. Now, i was already Medicare, but I don't recall if that was ever asked to set the appointments.
