Overwhelmed for newly diagnosed husband

It's been a long and trying process but we finally have a plan and DH feels good and comfortable with the plan.
DH is going on 11/9 for LDR with Dr. Zalefsky at Sloan. He will also do at the same time markers and most likely the spacer (he said the insurance has been paying for it). They will do simulation and planning also in NYC with Zalefsky and they will send the cast and all the info to Sloan in NJ and DH will go for external radiation in NJ in Basking Ridge. We already met with the doctor there as well and we like her.

celebrate life - 40s is really low. Unfortunately my answer will not help you probably with your platelet issue. My husband's low platelets are the result of him having the leukemia. For his type of leukemia platelets count is on of the indicators of when to start treatment. Also, the inhibitor drug that he is taking for the leukemia sometimes can lower platelet counts. I know my hubs platelets did some crazy stuff sometimes based on him being sick even with a cold, with different viruses and infections. His platelets actually came up in last couple of blood tests but we are not sure if it is just a fluke or if he really bounced back.

Hope they will figure out the reason for platelet count drop for you hubby.

My husband and I are in a similar situation as you and your husband -- Gleason 9, positive seminal vesicles, negative bone scan negative CT scan. We consulted two surgeons, one who is tops in our area. Both indicated that to have any hope of a cure they would have to do extremely wide margins with almost certain incontinence and impotence. THEN my husband would still be looking at radiation on top of that. Right or wrong, we have elected hormone therapy in combination with radiation. Our local oncologist believes that has the best chance of a total "cure", realizing cure may never be certain with this awful disease. Our local oncologist works with MD Anderson out of Houston so we feel relatively good about our choice. But I share your pain, worry and confusion. All you can do is make the best choice you can considering all the factors. You are both in my thoughts and prayers.

CK - We are finally back home. All went well. We got there before 11am and waited for about 3 hrs before they were ready for him. The doc said they were running 45 min behind when he came to see us so not sure why we waited so long. I finally left him at operation room around 2 PM and they started his procedure at 2:40. The doc came out to see me at 4:15 and I was able to go to the recovery room at 5:20 or so.
The worst part was the waiting for so long and it's funny how glad a man can be when he manages to urinate and be discharged. :)
