So, I had my 1st post treatment PSA test, and it came back at 0.10. Great right?
Had my consult with the doc last Friday, and after a quick flick up the wahhoo, he said...so, see ya in 6 months. I says 6 months, not 3? And he says ya...you're doing the best I could expect, so 6 is fine. Great right?
Well, now let's talk issues. The past 2 weeks, I've had a couple bad bad bad days. BM's are sketchy at best with little to no retention control. When I gotta go, there's little to no warning, and mucus to write home about
. Also, urinating is also sketchy.
I have this kinda itch/irritation in my prostate zone that might be what one would expect if they had an infection or std, but not possible to be any std unfortunately.
Somewhat painful at urination completion.
Also...stickman is working, but orgasm is wierd and dry, except last time, when I woke up I seemed to have the remnants of dried ejaculate in my shorts...what up with that?
Ok brothers, what do y'all think is going on?
For the record thw doc says drink more water to deal with the urinary issues and the BM issues will get better in time.

You are your best advocate. That said, if you fell better with a 3-month check, get it done. Most post treatments like yours are 3-month shots for a year and than, maybe, on to 6-month checks.

As a surgery guy, I can't comment much on the bowel issue. However: take your metamucil every day. Get those bugs growing in there (probiotics). Eat healthy--high fiber, not a lot of red meat, lots of fruits and veggies. It will regulate. Honest. Yeah, the orgasms are different...for me, they're as good (or even better) than before. Dry is something you'll get used to. So will your partner.

Are you using Flomax for the urinary issues? May help. I am still on it and I finished IMRT in May. I tried to ween off of it last month and it was too soon so MedOnc tells me to stay on it for now. As for BM issues, I am the king of those. I assume the explosive issues are diarrhea? If that has been going on for awhile, it may very well be some bad bacteria issues instead of the good bacteria. I agree with halbert and try a good probiotic and more water. If that doesn't help, you may need to see a GI doc. Could be your doc thinks you have the normal acute side effects and they will pass... if they don't within the 3 months, call and make another appointment. Good luck. Take care. -JR

Re the PSA, I would want three month checks up if I were you. For at least the first year or so.
I'm wondering if anything is else could be related to coming off the HT, since I believe you said your T was just coming back now. Not that I had any of those symptoms then, but just trying to look for a cause. I do think bottom line that you should expect more help from the RO. Clearly, you're having some issues and it would be nice to get some help with resolving them.

Hi guys. Thanks for the responses.
So, currently I am stuck at home while the docs try to figure out what's going on with me.
So...where do I start.
Bowel control is not very good right now. For the most part, it's like blowing my nose out my butt. Mucus more than anything else.
Urinary functions are working, but painful. On scale, it peaks at about
a 10, and ebbs at about
7, with a lot of itching sensation in around the 3 to 4 scale.
The symptoms are cyclic, and not consistent. A bought might last 4 hours. There's no real schedule or prediction as to when and how bad the symptoms might be.
Here's what's been done so far:
1) Urine analysis for micro-bacterial infections (waiting for result)
2) Feces analysis for micro-bacterial including CDIFF infection (waiting for result)
3) Have been taking Cipro-antibiotics since Sunday night with the GP thinking infection of the urinary tract or bladder
4) Taking some fibre supplements
5) Taking a probiotic to try and regain some bowel control
6) Flomax per usual, + ES Advil Gel Caps for possible inflammation
As a footnote, the only item worth mentioning is when the URO ONC did the treatment follow up a week ago, he did mention slightly enlarged prostate, but that it felt benign. (T back to normal, and PSA = 0.10)
So, while I keep the entire Canadian medical Community busy trying to figure this out, I thought I would ask the learned group here to see if anyone might have some personal insight into this based on a past post-rad side effect.
For those who may ask, radiation treatments completed end of July this year. All the other pertinent info is in my signature line.
As always, thanks in advance brothers!

Newton - I most certainly cannot answer your original question as to whether remission adds to length of life, but I firmly believe that it does add to the length of the "good" portion of your life.
In a nutshell, my feeling is that as long as something doesn't shorten your lifespan, quality of life wins out over almost anything. I've experienced the dark side of QOL, and don't want to go back there, even just for a visit.

Newt...thanks for the additional information. CaliJr also had the Triple Play and he's been having bowel issues, which was attributed to the IMRT. I couldn't find his thread that discussed that, but you may have more luck with the search function than I have.
For my part, my urine flow hasn't been as strong after Triple Play, but no pain, burning or anything else. I hope they get this figured out for you. I feel for you.

So I finished SRT like two and a half weeks ago. I was getting a lot of bleeding up until two days ago. I wasn't sure when to be worried about
it so I just rode it out. Now I have that mucussy thing going on that you described but it seemed like an improvement over bleeding like a stuck pig every time I went....so yup, when ya gotta go you gotta go but things are improving with time. I'd say just give it time.
