Scotsjohn decision made.
Thanks to everyone on the forum for their thoughts and advice.
I have finally decided to go with ldr brachytherapy. I go in for the procedure on the 23rd of December and should hopefully be heading for home in time for Christmas. I'm hoping that I have made the right choice of treatment, time will tell. This forum has been a great help to me, your support and advice is much appreciated and has helped me to come to this final decision. In the end I was deciding between SBRT and Brachytherapy. Unfortunately I couldn't find a centre or hospital with sufficient experience in the UK with an SBRT treatment track record. SBRT (Cyberknife and Rapid Arc) seems to be used to treat various other cancers in the UK but is in its infancy in treating prostrate cancer.
Advice from various people expressed how important it was to be treated with experienced practioners with sufficient numbers and successful outcomes behind them. To that end I am travelling 1000 mile round trip to have the procedure done by a respected Consultant and his team with over 3000 procedures and a good track record of results behind them.
I will post updates on my treatment in the hope that it will help others, as I found the experience of reading other forum members journeys very informative and at times inspirational. As we all know not all of us will get the same results, but the members of this forum seem to tell it as it is, good or bad, which I think is very important. If we know what the potential challenges and hurdles are along the way, we can face them and deal with them as best as we can.
Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year to everyone and their families in 2017
