The Dr said they will fill my bladder up with water and remove the cath then they want you to pee on your own. If I'm sent home before I pee how tough is that to hold in?

If your doctor didn't already tell you this, you need to bring some "Depends" pads to the appointment to soak up the pee which you can't hold!

The problem won't be not going...it'll be not being able to hold it in.

I had my drains (I had two) removed immediately before I went home from the hospital. There is one stitch that holds them in place no significant discomfort there. The tubes though seem to be about 14 inches long. It wasn't really painful but a seriously strange feeling when tube is being pulled out. I could actually feel it moving in my pelvis where I've never felt anything move before. The worse part for me was the car ride home. Since the drain tubes go through muscle, the muscle was sore and every darn bump on the road was noted directly by my muscle. The ride home was more miserable than the drain removals.

I had my cath and staples removed last Wednesday. They didn't fill me with water, just took it out. Once again not painful but uncomfortable feeling. Mine stuck a bit so it had to be given a slightly harder pull for a second. After it was out, they gave me a diaper to put on before I sat up. When I sat up I completely emptied my bladder immediately with no control at all. It just ran out. Then they send you home with a sopping diaper. I think there must be a better way like maybe have your bladder emptied before they give you the diaper so you aren't soaked going home.

Thanks guys, Im guessing they will give me something to wear for ride home, I only have the pads for my underwear but they are the thick ones. I have about a 20 min ride home Ill take a towel incase I need it in the car.

Has anyone experienced lower back pain after prostate surgery? Mine just started 2 days ago and had my surgery on the 22nd of Dec. Left side almost feels like kidney stone I hope its just a function of the kidneys being I can really sit comfortable or even sleep with this cath in.

I will be so happy to come home with no tubes and take a nice long shower and lay in my own bed.

Weird how so many have different experiences. I didn't have to do the water or the pee thing. My cath was removed and I went home (sporting Depends underwear, of course). I was given an antibiotic to take prior to and after removal, but I forgot the 'prior' pill. The doc was still OK with pulling it. And I'm fine.
