Happy Holidays to all. Last Friday I saw my urologist for my 6 month check up after the advance sling procedure. I have not worn a depends/pad since my surgery. I went loaded with questions as what I can safely do and what he thought my long term outlook for continence looked like. I feel my urologist is excellent and has done over 250 advance slings, so I have a lot of confidence in him. In a nutshell, he said keep up my exercise program including jogging and weights, adult beverages fine, the advance sling should continue to do its job and this is my new normal. The only thing he wanted me to adjust was my caffeine intake. I've been drinking about 48 ounces or more of caffeinated coffee and that's too much. It dehydrates you, raises blood pressure, can be hard on other parts of your body. Lastly, he told me to go enjoy my life and stop worrying about continence. I know lots of men have had varying degrees of success with slings. As for me, I couldn't be happier. This has really changed the quality of my life. I would recommend to all my brothers dealing with leakage to investigate this alternative. The first thing you should do is fine a top notch urologist that has done many of these procedures. I talked with two highly recommended urologists, one in my hometown and the other at John Hopkins. Next, make sure you are a good candidate for the sling and go through the urodynamics and cystoscope tests. If you can, speak with some other men who have had the advance sling procedure done by your urologist. Good luck to all and my sincere wishes for a blessed and wonderful 2017.
