Need a little help here, panicking

Jumpy_Wolf, I had a similar situation as well. Furthermore, I had to pee every 20 mins. It was a weak stream and I felt just like you, that I would have to have the catheter re-inserted. Within a couple days, the stream got stronger, not strong mind you, but stronger. The frequency did not slow down for about 5 days or so. All I can say is hang in there a couple more days. Things will most likely get better. (I was also about 1.5 hours away from my surgeon and hospital adding to the worry!)

That's a scary place. Likely you'll be fine as the inflammation starts to go down.

Like Gemlin said, if it stops get to the nearest ER. Any good ER can put a cath in, which gives you the time to get to docs.

An alternate explanation for what you are experiencing is that the reason you find it difficult to pee is because there is very little urine in your bladder and you don't actually need to do so. Prostate surgery leaves the bladder neck irritated and inflamed and the feeling of having to go even if the bladder is nearly empty can be pretty compelling. It's hard to develop a decent stream if you only have half and ounce to work with.

As long as you can pee a little bit every time you go -- even if it stops before you feel empty -- you're probably not plugged up. That feeling of still having to go is probably just irritation. Chances are that with a few more days to heal you will go less often and you will pee like pouring water from a bucket.

I had a tough time peeing after my cathedar was removed as well.

I had drank a TON of liquid too .. but no pee.

I was worried I was in retention (which is what is the concern)

A weak stream is better than nothing... weight your pad to see if you are peeing into your pad constantly... and just walk around and get some exercise.

Uh.....you just got the catheter out like 2 days ago....AFTER having surgery and getting your urethra cut and sewed back together and you are surprised you have some issues? Easy fellow, do not expect yourself to recover faster than Superduper man. Yeah, if you can't pee, then you will have to do something. Otherwise, you are gonna have to deal with this for a while. Take a deep breath and chillax. Learn how if you don't already know how.

I got tired of peeing down my front or to the left or the right or a split stream or hitting the dam floor for sure. I also got real tired of my poor dick hurting so much for months on end.

You think this is bad? Wait until you have to go fishing to get him out so you can pee when you really gotta go.

That was my experience. 3 days after the cath was out I made a terrified call to the uro on call at midnight feeling like I was in retention. I was dressed ready to hop in the car to the ER. After some questioning he had me drink some water and walk around for 15 minutes and call him back if I hadn't gone yet. It worked, my bladder must have just been empty and with a little more back-pressure I was able to pee.

Hopefully that's all it is and things will improve for you quickly.

I'm coming up on 2 years since RALP, and peeing is still...weird. Sometimes I feel the urge and I'll pee out 10 drops. I still drip at random times with no pattern. Most of the time, no issues. So, Jumpy, I guess I'd suggest that what's going on is part of the typical pattern.

sheepguy...here's how I look at it (forgive the digression). Before surgery I had some level of BPH, and had classic post urination dripping. Today, I drip occasionally, and the volume is the same...or less...than before. If the definition of continence is the ability to 'hold' it and urinate on demand, then I was continent before, and I am now. If the definition is to be completely dry all the time with never a drip, then I wasn't before, and I'm not now.

The wife and I agree that after a certain age we all tend to drip a drop now and then.

I would define "continence" as you don't piss your pants.

JayMot---It's a bit better now five days post catheter removal. Still pretty weak flow but at least I don't have the constant urge to go anymore.

.I don't leak..not even a little...at 68. I hate "going commando" with your junk rattling around all day. LOL
...and I don't want to leak..no surgery for me..as I've said before. It can be really smelly and gross.

I had the same problem. I found that sitting down was easier to pee. After 2 1/2 years I still sit most of the time. It seems easier than dripping on myself.
