HW/PC Book Club DISCUSSION — #1Gentle readers, welcome to February.
I know that at least some of our participants have finished the book
Being Mortal—Medicine and What Matters in the End, by Atul Gawande…but if you have not yet finished the work, no worries; don’t let that be a barrier to your participation in the February discussion phase. I can’t offer you a glass of wine (white or red?) as I might otherwise in a "live" Book Club meeting to encourage you to come to the meeting, but please do come, join-in and participate as you are comfortable.
I’ve got some ideas for questions & dialogue based upon the book, and over the upcoming weeks I will post them no more frequently than one-per-day (sometimes less frequently, if for no other reason that I am not on HW/PC every day, but also dependent on the pace of responses by our Book Club participants). I’ll start out with some “softball” questions, but later some may get a little deeper…and I hope that you’ll find some of the questions correspondingly thought provoking. As the ball gets rolling, I’m hoping and expecting that some of our Book Club participants will also raise points of interest from the book for the group to discuss (after all, halbert's been studying for weeks now
)…it doesn’t all have to come from me. Let’s start out with some “softball” questions…
Two weeks ago, back on January 17th, I wrote this in one of the

Readers, I hope that you are finding the book Being Mortal worthwhile. That’s not quite the same as saying “I hope you are enjoying the book,” because some of the topics are a bit difficult…but so worthwhile spending your time on. I hope you feel the same.
Did you find the book worthwhile? Are you glad you read it? Do you think my comment that some topics were "a bit difficult" was accurate? In our society, we generally consider discussions of mortality to be “depressing.” How do you feel about
that generality? Has reading
Being Mortal changed those feelings for you? In what ways? What might you do differently in light of your reading this book?
Comments?
