How long post surgery is colonscopy safe

I can't answer your question, but I will be watching the replies. I did not have surgery, instead opting for radiation, but I am "due" for colonoscopy soon and I don't know how long I should wait.

I should just call my RO's office. I'm sure they would have a "standard" recommendation.

I asked this question of my oncologist and he said for a normal every ten year (or 5 year if risk factor) colonoscopy that waiting for a year from surgery is a generous amount of time.
If this is to resolve symptoms or clinical issues then that was not part of my question to him. My question was about standard interval procedure.

MTM, I can't exactly address your concerns, but my open surgery was 8/2015 and I had my first ever colonoscopy this past December @ 53 years old (16 months later), but mainly because I was putting it off as I was 'surgeried out' after my RRP, as well as rotator cuff repair a couple years earlier. I didn't have any problems with anything related to the prep or procedure.

One thing I'll add, and I have no way to know if this is standard, but my local gastro practice doesn't require an initial consultation for a standard screening colonoscopy if you're not picky over the doc performing the procedure, but once I mentioned the 'c-word' I had to go in for a consult visit prior to. Once I did though, the doc told me it wasn't necessary after all, since I had no more prostate!

Contrary to my negative thoughts, no polyps, so I'm good for 10 years!!!

I had open RP in Jan 2013 and then had a colonoscopy in Oct 2013. Had no problems at all.

If I remember I had a colonoscopy 3 or 4 months after prostate removal, but as we know each Doc is different.

Surgery in October. Radiation in Jan and Feb and colonoscopy in August. Wow I sure has a fun year. At least the colonoscopy was clear and looking forward for the next one in 10 years.
