Dear Teamchris,
I have always followed your posts. I am mindful of everything you are facing.
This is a tough battle we are all facing. Tremendous comfort in knowing that we are ALL looking after each other and standing alongside each other as comrades in the battle trenches ...
With that being said, you have my ongoing support ... and may XOFIGO help you ...
It's ironic, but several good friends of mine now share my diagnosis ... from every chapter of my life, it seems ... my hometown, my college years, current work colleagues, church friends, community friends ... I'm thankful for the loyal brotherhood and comaraderie that emerges from those friendships ... and the support that is to be found here for members each day.
I represent the third generation of men in my family who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer ... first my grandfather, my father, and now me ... thinking back, I realize my family has dealt with prostate cancer over the course of 40 years.
I lost my grandfather during the years while I was growing up in my hometown ... looking back, I realize that no treatments were available for him during that time ... there were no approved chemotherapy treatments ... no ZYTIGA, XTANDI, PROVENGE, or XOFIGO. I visited him every day ... he was diagnosed in the fall, we had one more Christmas together with him, and he was gone shortly after that.
Looking back, I wonder what feelings of hope my grandfather was able to maintain, realizing there were no treatments available to him? I remember his courage, fierce determination, and love that he had for his family and friends ... those remained his only "swords and shields" in the mighty battle that he faced. His example inspires me daily, all these years later ...
I pray that researchers and scientists can continue to forge ahead in their clinics and laboratories on the breakthrough medications that all of us are desperately waiting for ... I can't imagine the dedication and tenacity it takes to find the next elusive breakthrough that would help fellows all over the globe.
I'm truly grateful for each breakthrough treatment and medication, wishing that even a few of these medications had been available for my grandfather years ago ... but we need more weapons in the arsenal, realizing there are still fellows in need right now ... hurry, science ... speed the plow ...
I wanted you to know that you have my thoughts, prayers, compassion, and support right now ... keep facing forward as you have been doing ... continue to forge ahead and embrace the everyday blessings of life ... find the value that each day brings ... and remember that you have our collective support right here.
My very best, today and always,
