taking XTANDI

Hi Kenny,
My DH has done the Xtandi route with no observable side effects. You don't have to take prednisone with it like zytiga, but it didn't work as well as zytiga did for Gary. You might consider a round of chemo (ugh) as the tx after Xtandi, hopefully a long, long time from now. But there is a lot of evidence now that chemo early on is a wise course of action.

I took xtandi for about 15 months. I never had any of the side effects and felt quite well the whole time. When it stops it is like a switch. Hope you do as well as I did.

Hi Kenny,
You have to keep doing Lupron to keep the testosterone down, because some of the cancer cells have become resistant to hormone therapy, which the Xtandi is targeting, but there are still plenty that feed on testosterone, and you don't want those to multiply. That's the simplistic answer that our MO gave us. I'm sure others could explain it better.

I have not posted in a while but saw your thread and wanted to contribute. I am a little different than most here. I did 20 months of Zytiga then switched to Xtandi about one year ago when we THOUGHT the zytiga was failing. My PSA was held around the 3.5 range during Zytiga and has been in the 0.5 to 0.6 range while on Xtandi. No really bad side effects from Xtandi. I have been on HT for most of the last six years and blame most of the SE's on that ( flab, loss of muscle mass). I have some joint pain in my fingers in the morning but that goes away once I get to moving around. I do have joint pain in my left shoulder similar to a frozen shoulder ( had that before) but not nearly as bad. But I am pleased that my PSA has been so low while on Xtandi. To me, Xtandi is easier to take than Zytiga which must be taken on an empty stomach and with prednisone. That's my experience.
