Please help. My husband had his prostate removed 8 years ago. He's been going religiously to a his appointment and everything's been okay till now. He has a 1 on his reading.. He has appointments coming up to evaluate what's going on.. What can this mean?

Well it could mean that the surgery did not get all the cancer. If it left a very little behind it can show up many years after the surgery. He will be evaluated to determine what the next steps are. Sometimes radiation therapy is used and there are numerous drugs that can be used to manage the cancer. His urologist should give him the various options and recommendations based on the assessment. If they think the cancer is still in the prostate area they may use radiation to attack it there. If there is cancer outside the area that can be radiated then they will likely us some drug therapies designed to manage the cancer.

Could be a lab error... they will likely re-test.
What is your husband's history?
Hang in there.

Samster.. doubt very much it was a lab error.. it's been accurate these past 8 years..In a month they are going to perform surgery to determine why his urine flow is weak. His pda level 8 years ago was less than 1.. had his entire prostate removed rather than wait and see.. thank you for responding..🤗

One of our clients had his prostate removed at age 55 followed by 15 years of undetectable PSA.......then an increase. His doctors administered nine months of ADT and it remains undetectable again. Doesn't mean it cured him, but it is managing the cancer. He continues to get PSA tests each quarter.

The fact that his PSA had been zero for eight years actually makes the lab error more likely since this one reading is out of whack. Please don't get me wrong--I'm not saying that is what's happening here, but I also wouldn't exclude the possibility and I would think that re-testing would be part of the process of figuring out what's going on.
What was your husband's pathology in terms of Gleason score? And did his PSA go from zero to 1.0?

I vote for a retest. Out of band results need to be confirmed. Just because they've not made a mistake so far, doesn't mean they can't.
Retest, confirm, then proceed. You would be a rare case to go eight years and then have a jump like this.
If it is confirmed, then you've got a problem to deal with.

Definitely confirm that. If confirmed, however, see an RO immediately, and get a PET scan.

Snuggle, sorry for the bad report after all these years. I concur with the thought of a retest. If that confirms the reading then seeing a radiation onc is probably your next best step.

about
10% of all surgical reoccurrence happen after 10 years, so a long length of time before a reoccurrance is not all that unusual.

Just praying everything is okay.. Recently buried my mom and baby sis.. I don't think I can handle this right now. We are not going down without a fight and will try and be optimistic. Thank you each and every one of you. I used this forum years ago and would've lost without your input and advice.. Much love to all..

Have you seen the lab report with your own eyes?
My first thought is they didn't do an ultrasensitive test and the result is <.1, and it was misreported to your husband.
