OT (Sort of) enjoying life

I think you are doing the right thing in at least considering this. Life is just too uncertain. Regretfully, 3 cancer diagnoses that really caught us off-guard (early 50s is not when I expected 3 cancer diagnoses in 3 years) and slightly under-insured, have devastated us financially the past few years. That, plus 2 kids in college. Right now, if I had the option, I would be looking to go on disability from work (due to liposarcoma, not the PCA) and I'd be looking for a small place somewhere warmer. But, my little IT start-up has no disability benefits, and the six month wait for SSDI benefits would mean a trip to bankruptcy court. So, I'm kind of trapped at the moment.

I love it here in VT and I love skiing in the winters, but my treatments have taken a toll on me and the cold is suddenly less comfortable than in the past. I used to ski 50 days per winter and now, I'm down to 20 or so.

Live now. There are no guarantees. I'm trying not be be stupid, and I'm trying to make sure that if the liposarcoma wins (well, when it wins) that my wife will be financially comfortable. But, in the interim, I'm trying to squeeze as much fun as I can out of life right now.

If a new home in a warmer clime does that for you, I say to go for it.

Your post is such an inspiration for myself and my husband (a member of the G9 club). We actually just got back from south Florida, looking for a vacation home in Jupiter. My husband is at the beginning of his journey and we have always wanted to retire early - we are in our late fifties. When he first got his diagnosis, it changed everything for us. However, he has decided, just like you said, that our future is NOW! We are going forward with our plans, even hoping to make our trip to Florida from New Jersey in our boat!

Your post was so perfectly timed for us, as well as so perfectly said! I read it out loud to my husband. Of course he shed some tears....and then reached out to our real estate agent!

Ok so, update, I made a deal!. Nice home, well priced, hope to close in 3 weeks or so. But it's all talk until the inspection is done, no money gets paid. So I'm holding my breath.

That's why I live in Hilton Head Island where every day is paradise!

Hey Gedman, good to see you. Yeah, that is odd .

I lost the < in January, and they had me retest 3 weeks later, in early February, it came back the same, .02. And yes it was at Tewari office. I'm guessing by then, 3 weeks later, if it was the machine, they would hve told me. But Tewari just told me at this level he's not concerned. But rather than spread my visits out to one year, he told me 3 months, so I'll know more in May.

I'm hoping to spend next winter in Florida, not in NY doing SRT, but we'll see. Wasn't gonna not buy the house because of this.

Closed today.
I made a deal to buy all the furnishings, it was all fairly new, and my taste as well, for $4000. Included 3 flat screens mounted on the wall, with sound at, all wall hangings, etc. I closed via mail, so one of my biddies did the walk through for me. Tells me they even left me a bike, and a set of golf clubs.

So now I'm the owner of my very own winter White House. Can't wait for next winter,

JNF...I was stationed at NAS Glynco in the summer of 62...going to radar air traffic control school...and remember Jeckyle Island as well as St.Simons Island...Myself and my buddy used to hang at Shoneys drive in restaurant...hoping to get lucky with the car hop Belle's... {get lucky in innocence} now there's a memory few remember...or ever will...Hacksaw Ridge...connect the dots...fore they shift even..more...
