Hi aromasde - welcome to our forum, sorry you need to be here but glad you found us. This is a very supportive community of people. We're just a bunch of folks with this problem, but you will likely find others who can relate to your specifics, and share their experiences.
I originally setup the thread for the G9 Crew to be a gathering place for those of us with that diagnosis. It's kind of a specific situation that has its own spectrum of concerns. I've added you to the roster on this link, in the 5+4 group, the least favorite chapter of the club no one wants to join! We only had 4 members in the 5+4 group join in 2016, so it gives you an idea how unusual that diagnosis actually is here.
The Gleason 9 Crew -- Part 2, continued. If you review that thread, and the one preceding it, you'll find many people's stories on there. Most of us are doing pretty well, so it's an encouragement.
To your specifics, it's unusual for PCa to first show up in bones that far from the pelvic area, but I suppose it's possible. Prostate cancer cells typically metastasize first to bone sites, apparently bone tissue is a fairly hospitable environment for them for some reason. If those are PCa mets, then it's not called "bone cancer", it's just prostate cancer metastasized to bone.
In your situation, it was an unusual call to have that kind of scan done. Usually bone mets don't show up on scans well if the PSA is less than 1 or so. My insurance won't even cover those scans for prostate cancer. Are those spots causing you any discomfort?
Hang out here with us. We're here to help where we can. Ask, complain, whine, rejoice, whatever helps you. Welcome.
