It finally happen - PC

Ok, PC victims need to share great news when we can.

My first Active Surveillance PSA since diagnoses was 3.7 (APR 2016), vs initial 3.5 (OCT 2015). Although a nice low uptick, that’s not the “Great” news.

My recent June DO yearly physical, just (3) months past the PSA 3.7 count, has returned a PSA 2.7 count. A full PSA point “drop”. Because of the significant drop, I had the LAB double check the reported count against the source test, 2.7 confirmed.

I defer to other posters for PSA condition analysis. I realize, my cancer is not gone. But, at the very least, the cancer “progression” appears to be zero.

FYI – As my story states, the only other treatment I have been using consistently since the diagnoses, has been my wife’s natural Essential oil application for prostate cancer.

One year AS biopsy scheduled for this October 2016. Should have a PSA count prior to the biopsy execution. Time will tell, what is really going on here?

ASAdvocte, I was informed that the PHi and 4Kscore blood tests were not applicable for a person with a confirmed cancer biopsy reading. The tests were for a cancer presence risk and/or aggressiveness rating to determine if a biopsy is initially needed. If that has changed (ie JH's AS program) I do want to learn more about the change in procedure.

What you say about PHI is true -- it has only been validated for use before a biopsy. But what ASAdvocate is suggesting is a potential new use for the test - to monitor progression while on AS. Because it is less subject to all the things that cause PSA and %freePSA to fluctuate (and remember, PSA and % free PSA are a part of PHI), it may be a better tool to biochemically monitor progression than PSA alone. It also has the benefit that it is pretty cheap and covered by insurance (unlike 4Kscore). (although check if your insurance covers multiple tests after biopsy)

Well, it’s been a year, had the yearly AS biopsy.

GREAT NEWS!!!

NO detectable cancer found. Sorry, have to repeat that again “NO detectable cancer found”. What a blessing.

So, I realize the cancer is not gone. But, with a flat PSA number from the previous year, basically, little to no progression activity is the assumption. Given my past Genetics/MIPS test (intermediate risk for aggressive cancer) the biopsy results were unexpected. My wife and I were expecting a couple of cores with cancer. Just seem logical.

I will say this, don’t laugh, the only thing I have done consistently throughout the year, is an Essential Oil treatment for prostate cancer (see earlier post). My wife’s persistence may make a difference. Didn’t hurt to continue it, had nothing to lose, made her happy, gave me hope. The reports on Frankincense oil (and a few others) may just have some merit and severely underestimated for a cancer treatment supplement.

Still too early to tell on the natural oil treatments, would need some repeated negative biopsy results that include a consistent low PSA delta difference year-to-year. In any case, this year’s pass on aggressive treatment is greatly welcomed and not taken for granted.

For now, NewDay is riding the AS horse to the next outpost. My wife’s care package in my back pocket.

Go ahead...pat yourself on the back! You deserve it!

You were smart. You didn't yield to emotion-over-science, as so many do. You should shout it out like this:
“NO detectable cancer found”


By the way, this is not all that surprising a fact. It turns out that when looking at large population samples of men initially diagnosed with favorable-risk cancer—just like you and most other newly diagnosed men—when they actually stick around for a second, confirmatory biopsy without first rushing into an aggressive treatment, that only about 50% stay the same AND about 25% are just like you...their results go DOWN. (What about the other 25%? It's time for them to move on to treatment...and other large study results have shown that their treatment success rates are absolutely as good as those who went to immediate treatment...but 75% of the men did NOT need treatment and all the nasty side effects or slippery slope accumulation of problems!)

NewDay, Congratulations! Hope that you have many good years ahead on your AS program.

It's not unusual for a very low risk patient to have a negative biopsy after a positive one. My last one was also negative. They can still see the suspicious areas on the MRI's, but those haven't changed, so the plan continues as before.

I had the Oncotype test done and because of my tendency to want to do as much research as possible learned that the Oncotype test is good for identifying the probability of the cancer being organ confined at RALP and having a dominant gleason 4. From my sig you can see I had a 91% change of my cancer being organ confined and 93% chance of not having a dominate G4 which both turned out to be true. I think the test provides some reassurance if you are leaning toward AS.
