Liver Mets came on fast. What is available for treatment????

Back with more questions. Please share what you may know about demolishing liver lesions and any really good Dr.'s that work with these issues. I live in Southern California.

I went in for an f-18 Pet scan for my bones and an MRI for liver lesions last week.

The bones remained ok, however the MRI with 2 "2cm" lesions seemed to explode with multi Foci.

There is a proceedure with SIR Spheres. These are little radio active balls about 1/3 the size of a human hair. The Dr. Inserts a catheter into the hepatic artery to the liver and doses each section with the tiny short-wave radioactive balls on different occasions.

The "Spheres" are approved for colon cancer, however it's of labale use for prostate cancer. The Speres have been effective for prostate cancer as well. It is a matter of getting the insurance to pay for the procedures. That has be know to happen too.

IF any of you all know of another treatment, or even your thoughts about the "Spheres please let me know.

Sorry, I cant comment other than looks like your on a good track. I did not know anything about those SIR spheres, very interesting.

How long did it take to consult with Dr. Kwon?

just curious in your stat line, what was your initial PSA upon DX on 1/17/63.

From what I've read about it, it works great and has low toxicity. Someone else on HW had it done several months ago - try putting "radioembolization" "liver" or "microspheres" in the search bar.

The two mets in the liver could probably also be radiated with CyberKnife.

Dan was also diagnosed with extensive liver mets in January. He has been on etoposide/carboplatin beginning 2/6 and the latest scans showed the liver mets were stable, but new mets on his iliac. All this while his PSA has been dropping. His liver mets were biopsied at MDAnderson and are not PSA producers. I have been in contact with Dr. Tagawa at Cornell re: 177Lu-PSMA-617 trial and am waiting to hear back from him. In January he had no slots left and said in 2 months there would be openings. I emailed him last night and will let you know when I hear from him. Good luck with your treatments.
