Saturday, I had to do some work on my truck. It is funny how I still refuse to pay someone to do what I can do myself. The work was very strenuous and required spending time laying on the concrete. I have been really sore for the past 2 days. After work today I showered. While toweling off I saw why I am so Sore. By back and shoulders are covered with golf ball size bruises. I look like I got beat up. Bruising is a side effect listed on the label. After almost 4 years on the medication I was still shocked to see the number and severity of the bruises on my back. Upon closer inspection I noticed my hips are also bruised. Go figure. Todd

I too still get involved in strenuous activity including twisting wrenches underneath trucks...I have not noticed any unusual bruising but I am stiff and sore the next day..Maybe it's the Zytiga or maybe it's the lack of testosterone that causes these symptoms..None of this stuff is any fun..

Hi Todd,
When do you get blood panels again? When Gary's platelets dropped he started bruising just from turning over in bed. I assume you are taking prednisone with zytiga. That lovely drug causes bruising too.
Try to take it easy on yourself bro.

I am a pharmacist and I believe prednisone is the more likely cause of your bruising.

I was taking Zytiga as part of my HT and when I had my HDR brachy I had a completely bruised scrotum. At the time, someone here said that happens when blood pools as part of the procedure, but Dr Kamrava (who has done a ton of these) said he'd never seen it before. The best guess was that it was from the prednisone that accompanies the Zytiga.

Boy I hear you all. I have been on zytiga with 5mg prednisone for three months. I all the time feel like I was in a fist fight with a 600 pound gorilla, and I lost. Spine, ribs, pelvis even the back of my skull.
I force myself to do my mile out and mile back everyday, I am beginning to really not like doing that. Some days I almost drag my walking stick back home. I must be nuts. So what the option? Doc says if I stop the cancer will spread and soon into an organ. So I guess I keep take this stuff and walking. Hey Fairwind right none of this is any fun.

Todd - I like to paid people to do stuff I can do expertly. I just stand to the side and make witty comments until they start throwing tools at me.

I, too, had the bruising after HDR, but my doctors told me it would happen as it is a normal and usual de effect of brachytherapy. I have heard the same from several men that have had BT. I was told this upfront from my radiation oncologist that did the HDR and another radiation oncologist that uses seeds that I consulted. Your doctor's response surprises me.

Sounds like prednisone is the culprit. that and spending time under a truck, moving those muscles against concrete! That kind of thing happened once to me, so many bruises popped up on my leg, I thought my circulation was haywire of something. it disappeared in a couple days, hope your do to. Best for you to spend more time with the guitar than the truck repairs!

JNF...I actually recall you telling me that after I reported it after my first session. (And maybe even one or two other guys.) But at the same time I had my procedure at UCLA where they've done a zillion or so of these and Kamrava was very surprised to see all the bruising (he asked a couple of others to come and look at me) he said they hadn't seen it before. I'd sort of forgotten about that until Todd reported what he did.

Not sure how to reconcile what Kamrava said with the other experiences. I know several others that have had HDR brachy at UCLA, but I've never asked them that specific question...

My last blood work was in March (all but psa. I will not get my labs drawn again until July!

Surprisingly Gary's blood levels remained pretty stable through all his treatments with only slight anemia until the mitaxantrone. That messed up his platelets and rbc. Or the cancer did. Sometimes I think the tx gets all the bad rap when the beast is to blame. But then again, if there were no PCa there'd be nothing to treat. I'm waxing rhetorical. Sorry. I guess Logo' s rubbing off on me. LOL
I have been on a low dose of prednisone for many years for my RA and I bruise and tear at the slightest provocation. C'est la vie.

I'll do it for 75.00 an hour. Just to help a friend. Next time you need work on your truck just drive it down here.

I had bruising while on zytiga/prednisone. Especially on the back of my hands and arms because I do yard work and odd jobs around the house. I would describe it as having 'thin skin'. Almost any bump would cause a bruise and make me bleed. After I switched over to Xtandi, all of that went away. Not that I am superman now but I do not have the constant bruised hands and bleeding.
