Hi everyone,
I tried to write this post in the caregivers corner thread but for some reason I can't find it. If someone can put this post there also I would appreciate it. As a caregiver it would be helpful to talk to other people who have been on my side of this journey.

We are going on 4 weeks since Chris was admitted into home hospice. I truly do not know what we would do without them.
It is a constant battle trying to control his pain. They are so supportive and are available for us 24 hours a day. He is weak but still coherent and able to still do things on his own at this point.
It is so hard to wrap our heads around all of this. It seems one minute we were planning to travel the beautiful Colorado mountains in our motor home and the next minute we are here, but this is the deal we were handed and we just accept it and try to focus on his comfort.
Our oldest granddaughter who is 7 years old and him are very best friends. He taught her his to fish, how to ride a bike and how to just be the best, kindest and helpful person she can be.
They made a cast of the two of them holding hands that came out perfect and so detailed. It is something she can always cherish and remember forever.
I have said it before but everyone here on this forum has been so helpful through all of this with suggestions, knowledge and support. Thank you to everyone and a special thank you to Tall Allen and Beth.
I will try to update as much as possible.

You have an amazing attitude. Keep Chris comfortable and try to get the most out of everyday. God bless you.

If you are having trouble keeping his pain under control, nothing works like Fantanyl...They have long-lasting transdermal patches and lollypops for 'breakthrough" pain.....

sorry you are facing that. I went through it with my mother. Hospice took such a load off and their dedicated was amazing. Don't know how I would have may it through without them.

Teamchris, I have no experience with hospice, but just wanted to give you guys my best wishes. Your attitude is amazing, and I pray that Chris' journey from here on is as uneventful and pain free as is possible. He and you both deserve that

Thank you for this post. You and I are now traveling the same path, as we are just a little bit closer to hospice every day as well. My heart is breaking for you. It is such a difficult thing to accept this hand we've been dealt, but knowing there is no choice in the matter we do our best to lessen the grief of our loved ones and pray for pain free days for our DH.
There are many threads about what to expect from chemo or following surgery, but very few that deal with the end of life journey. It's hard to write and talk about. And it may be hard to read.
Before I read your post today I had been considering starting a thread documenting Gary's journey from here on out.
I won't hijack your thread, but I will start a new one asking the group if that is something of value or too depressing for this support forum.
I think about you and your DH and granddaughter every day and hold you near in thought and prayer.

Our thoughts and comfort prayers are with you your family and of course Chris. The folks that work at hospice are truly amazing human being. You are a very strong and caring person and Chris is I am sure very happy to have you by his side. When you spoke of your grand daughter I thought of what an impact Chris has had on her life, I only hope that I will be able to do the same for my two grand children, 3 1/2 and 2.
May God comfort you and give you continued strength.

Thanks for posting, Teamchris. I wish you a succession of meaningful days and moments. The handholding cast is brilliant! And grandchildren are wonderful.

My wife was a hospice nurse for several years, I have no idea how she could manage that job but she loves caring for people.

I can only echo what others have said here, and wish you all the very best with this next stage in Chris' treatment. I am so glad to hear the hospice staff have been wonderful, and I can only hope they bring you both the respite and relief you both need.

My heart aches for you and your husband. I cannot think of any word that can offer you any solace. There is none at this time. He has you, and you have him. And, what you have together is a life full of love and family. Many of us here will be where you are and in my selfish way, I am comforted to know that there are people like you who offer such love at this time, and, I am in awe of the beauty of that love. Take in all that you can, let time stop for a while and just be. All my best to you and Chris.
