This comes up regularly in here...and there is a tricky potential rule violation here, isn't there?
halbert, and others...
This is
one of two areas where we have
special, "informal rules" at HW/PC which moderators have put into place and enforce which supplement the HW published "Forum Rules"...both of the "informal rules" are (loosely) in regards to "
spam" and have been put in place with the best of intentions to "protect" members.
The
first of two "informal rules" has to do with past experiences with so-called first-time posters writing over-the-top glowing "reviews" of doctors which, as it turned out, were being sent by those doctors to create some free advertisement in social media sites like HW/PC...these got labeled as "
spam." Moderator PDA described this "informal rule" (aka "the Spamadi rule") this way:
"...the informal rule that new members are discouraged from making posts whose only purpose is to praise or criticize a doctor or medical organization during their first 10 posts. This is intended to prevent organizations from creating questionable "memberships" in an effort to adjust their online reputation, or that of a competitor."
The
second "informal rule" (the one halbert refers to) of not providing the URLs of online drug providers was created a number of years ago because a HW/PC member reported that his credit card had been compromised after he made an online purchase of PDE5i's, and he was convinced that the two were connected. Members had previously been sharing amongst themselves the URLs & names of the sites they were buying PDE5i's from, but HW/PC started getting hit with
spam ads being posted from various online sellers, as well as their personal experiences. The appearance of posters popping-in to advertise their website, as well as the instance of a compromised credit card, led to the ban. Moderator PDA, once again, described it best:
"We don't allow specific information to be posted here about offshore pharmacies that offer drugs at deep discounts. You can share such information among yourselves but we don't allow it here because if we did we would quickly be up to our keisters in spam."
The question at-hand in this thread is not a question of legality; that's been debunked repeatedly and in detail in other prior posts.
