I guess it all "Depends" (TM), doesn't it? I was never dry enough to stop wearing pads but I was able to move from four or five pairs of pull-up incontinence undies to one to three "Guards" pads per day. This made a big difference in QOL for me. Before my AUS I needed to carry some sort of bag to hold enough underwear for a day. Now I just make sure I load up both back pockets before I head out and I am good for a long busy day. As well as fitting in my pants pockets, the smaller pads are more discreet to throw away in public restrooms. If you wrap them up, carefully, plastic side out, they don't even smell... much. I'd love to be dryer. Maybe sometime I will look into some sort of revision. But I would never want to just take the slightly-leaky thing out.
The only part of your rationale that actually seems like a reason to remove it is the bicycling thing but I think you are possibly borrowing trouble there. I'd try a couple different split seats and see how the AUS did with them.
