Last summer while having a chemo treatment at Prostate Oncology Specialist, I met a man named Rick and his wife Kathy. They lived in the San Diego area. Rick had a recurrence and was in for his own treatments on the bed next to mine. We stayed in touch and then met again at the PCRI conference in September last year. He wasn't doing all that well but wanted to attend and we had dinner with them. We stayed in touch by email for awhile but I realized this weekend that I had not heard from them for several months so I sent a message for an update. His wife Kathy let me know that Rick passed away yesterday from PCa. She said he fought to the end. In his case, Rick told me that after his initial treatment, he got lax on checking his PSA and didn't do so for several years. By the time he came around to checking it, it was in the thousands and he had mets throughout his body. They were not on this forum but maybe some others of you knew them. In honor of him and his wife, I send this out to the community.
Rest in Peace Rick M.
